Heater will not power on. Noticed a couple of days previous that the display was not as bright as it should be and the unit would not function. Unplugged it and tried it the next day and it worked fine. The next day when I went to use it there was no power to the unit. I tested the outlet and everything is fine. What would case this to happen, and how can I repair it?

From "asvforum"...note this may require firmware upgrade of the device in order for the dim functionality to be present:
"With the unit currently powered on and the TV powered on, press POWER OFF and
then press MENU. You'll then be presented with the "hardware setup menu" where
you can set things like "native" output resolution vs. fixed output resolution,
etc.
I believe that there is now a "display brightness" setting in this
menu.
Of course I could also be wrong, and maybe this display brightness
adjustment is just part of the "user configuration" setup menu. With the unit
powered on, press MENU twice to get the main menu. Navigate to the Setup button
and push OK. Navigate to Cable Box setup button and push OK. If the display
brightness setting is in this "user configuration" setup menu, it should be seen
somewhere in here.
But I think I remember reading that it was in the
first "hardware setup menu".
This is the back light of the phone and is what is used for the display. It sounds like one of the layers of the display are not functioning. Unfortunately this is not something that is easily fixed. You'll want to bring it to a technician.
I do not know how to solve this problem but i will add my own solution. Like you said, you will have to wait for it to begin functioning again after you plug it back up.while its unplugged, you have to wait a moment until a small click it made.

It appears to be the power module at the bottom of the unit. Service centers sell a replacement unit that includes the control/display module. I don't know how much they charge to replace it. Replacing the power module requires comple disassembly of the unit to make the new connections to the thermal block, solenoid, pump, coffee heaters and control module. You have to take good notes on the connections and it could be a safety risk.
