Question about Canon PowerShot A510 Digital Camera

Downloading digital pictures to the computer

I have been downloading pictures with this camera for several years without any problems. Yesterday however, each time I tried to do it I get the message "cannot detect camera- check connection to camera". The plug is in tightly in both the camera and the computer. What could the problem be? Do I need a new wire to connect the two?

I have been downloading pictures from my camera for years. When I tried to download today my computer detected the camera but said it was corrupt. Sure enough when I checked my camera, still connected, it was frozen. When I removed the camera it returned to normal. When I reconnected it to the cable again, it refroze.

Try next to locate the problem:
1. Connect other equipment to the same USB port on your PC to see if it works, if it is OK
2. Replace the cable
If that don't help, the problem is probably in the camera.

1. Forget about getting the computer to recognize the camera. Do what the pros do...use a card reader instead of the camera and download to a folder you create on the desktop. 2. Sorry, but "format" completely erases the card with no hope of retrieval. typrice_192.jpg

Consider NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive. Or you can use any photo cataloging program.

Unable to download pictures thru Camera Window DC utility.

Skip the use of your software for downloading the camera files.
Buy and use a card reader.
You can download files from the card reader, and use an editor to fix your pictures the way you want.
Save a bunch of time and effort!

Camera not functioning

There is a reset hole under the cap the covers the USB connector.  Use a straightened paper clip to gently press in and it should reset the camera.   I hope this works.

Intermittent green tinted pictures (both indoors and outdoors)

The only recommendation is to correct the colour balance in a photo editor in your computer Come back here if you do not know about photo editing. As far as the camera is concerned there is no remedy as far as I can see -its old age time for a new one Repair is not an option.
