Haven't used the director for a while but didn't have issues before--I've use the printer & copier often, but recently needed to scan a doc. I did the MS updates, scan diagnostic, norton as far as I know. But the issue still happening.

This can be caused by a bad driver or the printer itself is going bad. But eitherway, you should get an error message either from the printer or from the computer where you are trying to print. Post the error here. We will be more than happy to post the resolution.
After careful research and reading about this problem and how others have handled it, it seems best to go back tot he source for the fix.Read it carefully and follow directions. Since I do not have any info on your PC or your Op sys, I cannot go any further with helping you, it seems pretty self explanatory however. If you have any problems, let us know.
I've seen this exact same problem before. What I deduced from that experience is that the Readiris software takes over the redirector function of the HP Director service. The only way we got the HP Director to function again was to:
1.) Uninstall Readiris 2.) Uninstall the HP printer 3.) Reinstall the HP printer without installing Readiris
This resulted in the HP director service working properly again, but with the user unable to use the character recognition functionality provided by Readiris.
Hope this information helps to clarify your current situation and thanks for using the FixYa service Kind regards
