The print is blurred. It looks like it's printing over itself. We have cleaned it several times and replaced all print cartridges. It worked fine the last time we used it which was a year ago. We store it in our rental unit to use while we stay here for the summer months. This is a Brother MFC 420 CN. Whats up?

If you have indeed cleaned the encoder strip, you might as another troubleshooting step check the alignment:

Paul,

did you had a paperjam the days before?

The encoder strip which gives the print head the position is out of position. It has to be fixed into the ph.

For the drivers and manual, you can go to brother's website. Here's the link for your specific printer:

http://welcome.solutions.brother.com/bsc/public/us/us/en/dlf/download_top.html?reg=us&c=us&lang=en&prod=mfc420cn_us

This should enable you to get up and running.

If you need something that is not in that group of downloads, you would need to contact Brother to order additional items.

SOURCE: Problem with my fax Machine MFC 420CN

You can cancel a fax job that is stored and waiting in the memory.
1 For MFC-210C,
press Menu/Set, 2, 5.
For MFC-420CN,
press Menu/Set, 2, 6.
Any jobs that are waiting will appear on the LCD.
2 If you have more than one job waiting, press ▲ or ▼ to select the
job you want to cancel.
Press Menu/Set.
—OR—
If you only have one job waiting, go to Step 3.
3 Press 1 to cancel.
To cancel another job go to Step 2.
—OR—
Press 2 to exit without canceling.
4 Press Stop/Exit.

That should do it for clearing faxes you dont need you can also print off all the faxes in the memory and I believe that clears it.
Enjoy,
Lee

Black ink will not print

Have you tried setting the color to black cartridge only. You may be printing the black with a combination of colored inks. I occasionally have a similar problem. Sometimes I can get the black to work by taking a paper towel dampened with distilled water and holding it against the cartridge print head until I see black ink coming out. Replace the cartridge and try printing again. If this doesn't work try a new cartridge and run through your Printer Settings, making sure they are all set properly.

How do you clean the print head?

Inkjet printers need to be used frequently to prevent inkdrying out in the print head nozzles.
If the print head cleaning maintenance routine does not clear the blockages, then print head needs replacing, but it may be expensive.
It may be more cost effective to buy a later model and better printer thanreplace the print head.

I am a one man shop and i have a client who has a hp6110 and i'm receiving remove and check cartridges. i have cleaned print cart, print carr assembly, took printer apart and cleaned ink well ,cleaned timing...

Hello there,

Mostly, once you encounter this issue and you have cleaned the print cartridge, the print assembly and even the ink cartridge itself, there is a bigger possibility that the print cartridge is defective.
Make sure to clean everything (including the ink contacts on the ink cartridges and the contacts on the printer itself)

Most of the time, the defective parts are the print cartridge or the print assembly but not the logic board on the printer itself. First thing you should do after cleaning everything is to look for a replacement for the print cartridges.

Changed the print head in my Canon MP760 but now printing is blurred and very faint

Try cleaning the felt pads where the print head would rest when not printing. They get full of ink and cause more printing problems. I use water to clean them.Don't loose them, they are needed to keep the print head from drying out.

Won't print black

# Hold the cartridge upside down, with the bar-code label facing you and take a damp paper towel.
# Use the towel to wipe the printhead of the cartridge on the bottom (where the ink comes out). Wipe the printhead horizontally in one direction only (left to right).
# Continue doing this until it looks clean.
# Then dab the cartridge on the towel to make sure the ink is flowing.
# Next, look inside the printer and locate the carrier that holds ink cartridges. Caution: Make sure the cartridges are not installed at this point.

1. Look for a shiny piece of metal underneath the contacts at the back of the carrier.
2. Take a damp cotton swab (use water only!) and wipe along the bottom of the shiny metal piece. Note: You may need more than one swab.

# Reinstall the cartridges, making sure you snap them correctly into the printer.

Dell A960 printing blank pages

I just sprayed windex on bottom of cartridge several times and wiped with paper towel until dark streak of black appeared. Then I dried off cartridge and replaced. It works now. Must have been clogged.

Print result at 1st line ok..2nd line become blur..its alternate till end of printing

Replace the ink cartridge.
The cartridge is so wide that it can print 2 lines at a time, and the upper part of it is probably partially clogged. That's why every 2'nd line is blurred, and the rest is ok.

Test print great, document printing blurred

Have you tried a new cartridge yet? I know it doesn't make sense at first but I suspect the cartridge has a problem and your test print isn't exercising the printer like the Word doc is. If the new cartridge works than the problem is probably poor quality ink, the hole you used to refill isn't sealed correctly or the cartridge or jets were damaged in some way.
