- Use CPU Heat Sink Paste in the processor.
- Fix OS registry with reliable program like I always use Reginout.

Sounds like your display panel is bad or it's another symptom of a mother board flex problem at the Maxim chip

My compaq nc6000 freezes after about twenty mins. I switched memory and harddrive but no change. it's not power options

JUST TURN YOUR LAPTOP AND CHECK IF YOUR PROCESSOR FAN IS WORKING, YOU SHOULD FEEL SOME WARM AIR COMING OUT FROM IT. IF IT IS NOT WORKING THEN CHANGE YOUR FAN...OR IF IT IS WORKING, TRY TO CHECK YOUR PROGRAMS AND HARDWARE IF THEY ARE CONFLICTING, LAST THING IS TO CHECK YOUR PROCESSOR, RAM JUST TO MAKE SURE IF ITS NOT A PROBLEM...CHECK OUT

cpu is getting over heated because the fan cooling it is slow or not working well or stopped . go into setup , see the cpu temperature, and fan speed , if normal , neglect the above cause.

change ram , use any other working ram .

battery may not be fully charged , or old battery.
battery faulty (current leakage or less working voltage or less current storage capacity,
use mains supply , if lap top is ok on mains supply then charging section or battery is faulty.

Processor question Compaq nc6000

Check your power management settings and make sure that your settings are not set to decrease CPU speed in order to conserve battery power. You can usually adjust it those settings manually (try the custom tab)

Sometimes, some motherboards might require an updated bios to resolve speed related issues. This would be your last step if power management tweaking fails.

Oh, check your bios, there are CPU throtteling settings that might solve this issue.
