Cannon i865. Operator Error message and blinking orange light (5 blinks). Switching off power does not reset. Also used reset technique from this site, this does not seem to work. Any more ideas?

5 flashes indicates a faulty printhead or possibly a problem with the p/head contacts. Try removing the head which is easier if you take the cartridges out first(no tools required) and re-seat it having checked the contacts for dirt.

If that doesn't work it may be that the waste ink tank is full. Try this ...
1. Turn off printer
2. Hold down Resume button and press Power button.
3. Keep holding down Power button and let Resume button go.
4. Press Resume button 2 times then let BOTH buttons go.
5. Green lights will flash and then stop blinking.
6. When green lights are solid, press the Resume button 4 times.
7. Press the Power button and the printer should turn off, if not, press the Power button once more.
8. Your printer should respond as normal.

If I could be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it and give a testimonial for my response

Thanks, Joe

2 things will cause this.
1 is a problem with the scanner: brokenn cable, dirty rails, dirty or faulty sensor, faulty scan motor or motor driver.

The second is much simpler. A stuck key on the keypad will lock the machine. Press every button on the panel to make sure each one makes the usual click sound as it is pressed. Sometimes just pressing the keys will cause it to become unstuck, other times the keyboard must be disassembled to remove the crumb, dirt, debris, etc, interfering with the key.

sounds like a bad control panel. Unfortunately I've had to replace quite a few of those when I use to work for Canon on those models.

Try this, press really ******* any key see it changes. Not sure if you are tech oriented but you can remove the panel and get to the main board ( a lot of tiny screws) but not hat hard, once you get to the board you can push the buttons on it and see if it changes.

probably the buttons are not working. you will need to check the control panel (whee the button are at) and check if the micro switches are working properly.

3. Keep holding down Power button and let Resume button go.
4. Press Resume button 2 times then let BOTH buttons go.
5. Green lights will flash and then stop blinking.

I use it on my IP3000 to reset and it is meant to be for ALL Canon pixma ip 3000 and above, best of luck!!
