Sounds like the drain is blocked you have a plugged up drain in the freezer.when the machine goes into defrost the ice melts off the coil and goes down the drain in the freezer and drips down to the bottom pan where it evaporates, but your drain is blocked so the water can't drain correctly.you have to empty the freezer, remove the ice maker and shelves, remove the back wall and with a hair dryer melt out all the ice.after the ice is gone you have to clear the drain.i use a steemer to clear out the drain,if you don't have a steemer you can use like a turkey baster or anything that will blow through the drain line and clear it.when you think it's clear, pour hot water down through the drain to make sure it's clear.there's a heater you can install into the drain hole so this doesn't happen again, you can call your local parts store and tell them you need a drain heater or you can make one,get a 6 inch piece of house electrical wire, remove the ground wire from the casing, stick it in the hole until it hits the bottom of the drain, then leave enough to rap around the heater that melts the ice off the coil around a half inch and cut off the rest, when theheater comes on the wire heats up and stops the ice from blocking the drain. you want it long enough to go down the drain without hitting anything,4 to 5 inches is plenty, let me know how you make out

There is a lot of reference to removing the "back wall". Is this the inner or outer back wall, in the sense, do we remove the back wall from inside the freezer or pull the freezer out and remove it from outside? If from inside, then its tough to get to the back because of the sliding trays etc.

  • Sal De Jun 21, 2012

the inside wall of the freezer, first off what kind of machine do you have and what's the full model number off of the fridge,if it's freezer on bottom or side by side open the fridge door and look up on the right hand wall near the ceiling and you should see the model number,if freezer on top look at the left side wall up near the ceiling, yes you have to remove the the trays, ice maker, anything that's in the way

Water inside on shelves can not determine where it is coming from checked back of refrigerator can not see any leaks inside or outside. cleaned up water cleaned under fins etc one day later more water...

A temporary solution is to remove all frozen food, ice tray, shelf and bottom plate. you will see the water drain trench and a drain hole in the back center of the freezer. Unplug the drain, free it from ice or debris and flush with hot water. I have the same problem with my frig. This is not a permeant fix, but it will stop water from dripping through the vent ports The defroster may be defective or the air flow is too restricted. Good luck.

first make sure the door of your fridg is closed very good, check in your freezer behind the back wall that the drain is clean and water can flow down.

Our freezer has snowy ice and now the fridge cools poorly??? cleaned the coils, checked gaskets, drip pan, and it sounds like the fan by the coils is running, any help on what to check for next???

if you have a ice maker check the water inlet to see if there is an air gap if not make sure your your gasket is not bad and your not blocking the air flow from your freezer to your fridge. also check your temp. and make sure that the number difference is only off by no more than one

Water drips from freezer into refrigerator

The drain is clogged..you need to see if it has a rubber drain trap going into the back side of refrigerator. if so, twist and turn as you pull it out and clean it..replace and then check that drain is open..if no drain trap on back side of refrig..remove freezer wall and open drain from inside freezer..you need to clean out drain trough using hot water..a little messy, but effective

Kenmore elite - Water dripping from freezer to refrigerator

Your refrigerator has a defrost drain blockage behind the evaporator in your your freezer compartment. Some models like yours have leak in the turns as the water leaves the freezer. I recommend that you unplug and remove the cover to the evaporator and check the defrost condensate tray below the evaporator. A wet vacuum cleaner and poring a solution with clorox in the drain will help you clean locate the leak and where the blockage may be downline.. I do have the manual on yours and can help you solve this. Some times this is a factory defect and I can help you solve the freezing drain problem. Let me know, Sea Breeze

Water dripping from freezer onto top shelf of fridge with ice buildup back of freezer

the defroster isn't close enough to the drain to be effective. remove the back wall of the inside of the freezer, remove the excess ice. clear out the ice from the drain using hot water and a turkey baster. there is a kit from whirlpool that uses a piece of metal and a screw around the defrost rod, but I found out that a piece of 14 gauge solid core wire with the insulation stripped off works great too. stick the stripped wire into the drain, 2 to 3 inches, and wrap the rest around the defrost rod.

STANDING WATER ON TOP SHELF

If the freezer is on top then empty out the freezer and remove the bottom and back liner of the freezer compartment usually phillips screws. In the back you will see the freezer coils along with a defrost element. Below these two items u will see a drip tray that collects water from the coils on defrost cycle, in the center of the pan will be a drain hole that connects to a hose that leads to a pan under the refrigerator.Normally the water is collected there and evaporated. The hole in the tray in the freezer is clogged. Thaw it and clean it until you can pour water in it and it goes to the pan down below. please rate me
