Backup disc problem

This has been an ongoing problem. It was a technical support person at Toshiba who tried to walk me thru what I needed to do to fix the problem who told me to come to this site and down load a disc creator file. I am totally computer illiterate!! When she tried to walk me thru tje steps to fix it, I was totally frustrated because she ended up with instructions that did not match what I have on my computer, like click the "tools" tab, and I have NO "tools" tab. The last tech that I talked to last night gave me the name of a Toshiba dealer to take it to, the closest one is 60 miles away, a big expense since the cost of the repair is on top of the cost of gas for 240 miles.

Go to Symantec.com and download Norton Ghost. That program will backup your whole hard drive for you onto Cds.

The disk creator program isn't used anymore since Windows XP was released.

How to restore toshiba labtop with no disc

Hello

Well, if you have no Installation disc, or no cd/dvd rom in this specific model, you should have a recovery partition.

To access the Toshiba recovery partition, power off the laptop. Hold down the 0 (zero) key and turn the laptop on. Keep holding down the zero key until the TOSHIBA logo appears, where you should start tapping the zero key repeatedly. Stop if the unit beeps or when the TOSHIBA logo disappears. The screen should flash ** HDD RECOVERY MODE ** for a split second, then load the Toshiba recovery program right from the hard drive.

Note that this erases all data, and reloads all factory default software. Be sure to back up all your important personal data beforehand!

If this procedure doesn't work, you don't have a recovery partition set up, hence, you will need the installation disc.

Hope this can be of help.

Kind regards
Andrea

Vista was pre installed on my pc how do i install a clean copy on my hard drive with no disc?? i have an acer aspire t690

A friend of mine had that problem. She contacted Acer and said she did not have a chance to make a backup disk and she needs to re-install the operating system. Within a few days Acer sent her the backup disks.
Just call Acer and ask for it, like she did. If that should not work for you, come back and someone will walk you through to put a copy of your drive on a cd. Hope things work out for you!

Satellite A205 help "loading DVD"

Have you tried other discs? Does it read CD or recognize blank discs? Have you tried a bootable disc to see if it reads prior to Windows loading?

If the drive doesn't appear in My Computer this is a possible fix:

Always backup your registry before editing and use care to find exact key!
Start Registry Editor (Start, Run and type in regedit then click)

Find "UpperFilters" and "LowerFilters" (and "UpperFilters.bak" "LowerFilters.bak", if they exist) value under the following key in the registry, and delete it:

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control\Class\{4D36E965-E325-11CE-BFC1-08002BE10318}

Quit Registry Editor.

Reboot.

NOTE: You might need to reinstall any CD recording apps you have, if they start to not work completely, after doing this.
