Question about Sony KP-53HS10 TV

1 Answer

Wavy Lines My tv has wavy lines, very dim and noticed expecially when the screen is gray or black. Also there is a small line coming from then left top corner down the left side about 3-4 inches from the side that looks like a shadow of some sort behind the screen. Parts of the line seem to float or move as the picture changes. Any idea on this?

I have been getting wavy lines on the screen (best seen when the screen goes to black or gray, like between commercials) and a somewhat fuzzy picture, especially with reds. Also a faint line down the center of the picture.

How do I fix wavy lines on Hauppauge Wintv hvr950q?

Are they wavy lines throughout the picture or are they just wavy on the side? Waving picture is usually caused by poor power supply filtering. Wavy lines throughout the picture are caused by interference. Try moving the device away from the computer with an extension USB cable it may be picking up interference from the surrounding electronic devices. It could also be defective.

Wavy horizontal lines across the screen

It sounds that the main power supply section to your TV has the fault. The horizontal thik lines that appears crawling down across the screen should be of video 'HUM'. Have you replaced the main filter capacitor at the power supply section? If not, replace it along with the main rectifier. The AC power is rectifed by a bridge and applied ot this main filter capcitor. It will have a capacitance value between 120 to 350MFD 450VDC. Check this section. Measure the rectifed DC voltage acorss this main filter capacitor. It should be around 350VDC, if your home power supply line is 220VAC. If it is 110AC, this DC voltage will be around 165VDC; and it should be. If rectified DC voltage found lower than the input AC voltage, replace the rectifier bridge. In some sets, this bridge section have four diodes. Some other circuits, a bridge rectifier stalk may be used.

Thin vertical lines

Those lines are called retrace lines. They are there all the time on projection TVs but you should be able to see them. When you do see them, that's an indication that the kine screen settings are too high or the supply voltage to the kine driver circuit is low or missing. There is a small, black control unit located behind the speaker grill assy in the front of the TV that has 2 sets of 3 controls. A red, blue, and green focus and screen controls. See if you can make the lines dissappear by turning the screen controls counterclockwise. If you can't you'll need to have service come out to troubleshoot it.

I would suspect defective filter capacitors in the sweep circuits as well as the power supply source voltages.
