If the magsafe is plugged in to the laptop and the wall outlet you should see a amber light on the plug. Once your laptop is charged the light will turn green.

Apple Powerbook G4 keyboard does not work

The problem is the ribbon connectors is loose connector on the motherboard. The fix is to remove the keyboard, disconnect the ribbon connector from the socket on the motherboard and insert a very slim piece of plastic in that connector to hold the ribbon connector tighter in the connector in the motherboard, once that's done replace to keyboard. The keyboard should work.

The charger port will not take the chargers current to charge the battery.

You got to use the real sh.t and not the cheap imitation China chargers bud. Bite the bullet and get a real Apple charger. If you still can't get a charge, then the battery is the culprit in which you should get a new battery. New battery and charger and still no luck? Then you need this part replaced but you gotta find one that is the same speed processor and model type:

It sounds like the system is corrupted. What I would do is to get your instal disk and boot up holding down the c key on your keyboard. Once you have booted up go to the file menu and run disk utility to verify and repair the hard drive if necessary. Then go to the instal menu and instal a fresh system remembering to preserve the users data so you do not wipe anything. Hopefully this will work.

My Apple powerbook G3 Mac wont boot up

Hi trunzo,

You need to be aware of a couple of issues with PowerBooks.

1) The plug connection (where you plug into the laptop) attaches to the Audio card. This is a point of frequent physical connection failure, either due to abuse or even significant normal wear & tear. It continued being a problem until Apple came out with the MagSafe connector on the Intel MacBooks. If this is bad, you won't be able to charge your battery, so this will need to be determined first.

If you're lucky, you might try plugging it in and _gently_ applying gentle lateral pressure on the plug - - you might be able to _temporarily_ get a connection (the plug should light-up and your battery (if present) should charge. I've been able to get this to work if the break in the sound card isn't too serious, but eventually, this won't work anymore.

2) These computers are now getting to be 8-11 years old. In computer terms, this is advanced old-age, well beyond retirement. While I personally liked the modular design of these computers (I own 4 Wallstreets, all but one are for parts), I wouldn't consider putting a lot of money into these unless I was going to use them as an old-fashioned case for new internal electronics - - for example, dropping in a motherboard/RAM/CPU from a newer MacBook Pro. (The real killer would be replacing the display - _major_ technical challenge there. And there we're talking a _lot_ of money and lots and lots of spare time to do the engineering. Unless you're doing it for a hobby, its not worth it.) Trying to restore one of these to working condition is going to be a challenge in just finding parts or a battery that isn't completely played-out.

If you want to explore this further as a DIY (Do It yourself) project, I highly recommend iFixit.com as a good source for both how-to guides and replacement parts. The URL for the Mac how-to guides is

If I can be of further assistance, let me know. If this helps or solves the issue, please rate it accordingly.

Thanks in-advance for using Fixya.com,

Jon

PowerBook Aluminum 17" not restarting after SLEEP MODE.

It does, but its not a fault, its a component. You may need to zap your pram or reset the pmu. when the power cable is plugged in, does the battery light flash on the bottom fo the machine confirming its charging? When you press power, does the caps lock key light up after being pressed? if your battery ( extenal ) is faulty, your machine should still power off the auxilary cable. the power cable bypasses the battery when plugged in. Do you keep youpower cable plugged in for extended times regularly, that kills batteries. make sure youre cycling properly.
