Im afraid this may be a fault in the display or the video card.

You could test the laptop on another monitor assuming it has a external video connector.

if the picture has the same problems in the external monitor then the problem is in the video card of the laptop, if not then the screen is faulty.

if you have warranty on the laptop, use it. if not you may have to send it in for service and pay the repairs, but as the repairs may come close to 200-500 usd or more, Im not sure if its worth it.

Sure, To find out if it is a Display issue or not,
you can connect an external Monitor to the Notebook.
If you see similar display issues then The issue may be fixable otherwise you will have to Replace the Display of your Notebook.

    To connect the external Monitor,

You will have to Remove the cable Big blue plug and it might have 2 screws holding it.

In case you Removed it Connect the Monitor to the same Port with the Very Similar cable on your Notebook...

I have a vertical white line on the right hand side of the screen from top to bottom 2 pixels wide.

Your screen is on the way out. Replacement is the only option. Often screens can be bought cheaply on Ebay. They are simple to replace. However obtain a service manual before starting the job. Again Google the make and model and the words service manual.

Vertical lines on an LCD screen are not a good sign. This usually means that your screen is going bad.

My Dell Inspiron Laptop is having some issues with its screen. Whenever I start up the computer, it narrows itself with these black lines on either side. It kind of looks like a widescreen DVD screen,...

You might want to try altering the resolution of the display in control panel.
Some DVD's and games you used may have reset the resolution to a new setting in order to run. try 1024x768 or higher and if none of those do it try 800x600 not that many monitors use that res these days they are all much higher, but see which one comes close to the real res. there is also a facilty to "stretch" 9 without distortion.

2 vertical line in laptop screen coming

Only way you are going to be able to remove this is by replacing the LCD. It is not a huge job, and not extremely expensive if you can do it yourself.

Here is a link to the maint and service guide that should show you removal and replacement of parts.

Vertical lines in my laptop screen

Have you tried hooking it up to an external monitor?
This would ensure that it's the screen and not the video card..
If you do that and you receive a good picture then it could be something as simple as a loose video cable. Or it could also mean something like a bad video card or the expensive one, a bad screen.

Replace the laptop under warranty. No point trying to fix the error and voiding the warranty.

Monitor problem

Sounds like a bad lcd.... any time you get vertical or horizontal lines, usually, the lcd needs to be replaced.

If you flex the screen a little, does it change? Don't use alot of force, just grab the laptop lid from both side and tweak it a little to see if the lines change or go away.

What make and model is this?
