Cold solder issues - each component is soldered into small holes on the printed circuit board which in turn connects said component to the other components. Due to time, heat, use, some solder joints would be cracked or loose. It is possible that the cold solder is still minimally connected (hanging by a thread). When the receiver turns on heat would be generated which would be sufficient to further loosen up the solder joint to the point it no longer provides electrical contact. Jarring the unit creates movement inside enough to re establish the contact, sometime good enough sometimes not enough.

Again, since the unit still operates (sometimes) then it is highly probable that there are no defective components. As you have surmised, it is possibly a loose connection, solder joints are "connections" except that molten soldering lead is used to attach/connect the component to the board, "loose connection" in this sense is equal to "cold solder".

Again on the assumption of no defective parts, then seeking a more experienced buddy for the soldering might be to your advantage. This is of course in addition to the possible electrical hazards when repairing....If i have helped, please click fixya. It is the only way i get paid for my work...

Good luck:

My first inclination is to check out your power supply - look for bad diodes and/or caps.

Hello - Our Pioneer vsx-305 display screen doesn't light up anymore and we are unable to get it to work even though the on/off button appears to operating correctly (red standby light comes on). T

It is likely failing due to age.Cold solders fail, corrosion can cut a connection, a capacitor can harden and fail... a myriad of things can happen in time. Repairing it will cost more than an inexpensive replacement. The same receiver can be had on ebay from $60 up (with shipping). It is a cost benefit issue at this point.

Kenwood krf-v4060d receiver display problem, its work for some time but after that no display, sound work fine but not able to see any display on receiver

it is possible that the voltage to the filament of the display is absent. This is normally a 3.6 volt AC which comes from the transformer and it can be lost a the connectors or the circuit board. It will be best to use a multimeter to trace the voltage to the display unit. check the voltage to the display driver IC, check the negative grid voltage to the display , if there is an open resisitor of the feed to the display voltage to the IC. Finally check the continuity of the filament of the display unit.
The driver IC is also a suspect , sumulate heat and see if the fault comes up easily which can confirm the case.

I have an HK AVR 355 system, that worked just fine. Yesterday I tried to hook up a new TV, and ended up taking a few cable out since they were not imoportaint any more and only used HDMI cable. Now when I...

Obviously you removed (or disturbed) something that was really necessary to the DVD's digital audio path. "Doesn't work" is pretty non-specific.

Do a web search for "HK AVR 355 manual" and download it. Then read the part about assigning digital audio sources and speaker configuration setup.

Look at the Troubleshooting Guide part that mentions the Channel Indicator Display (page 33).

The amps on the unit have probably died. Did they replace it for you? I'm becoming alarmed at the number of units just dying for an $800 piece of equipment.

MOTU 828MK3 led's flash then no lights do they have a switching power supply ?? Any one have a diagram of the unit

I have a MOTU 828 MK3 and have had trouble with the display lights not working on one of my units. I tried the unplugging and switching from 120 to 220 and back. Sometimes when I started it up it would come on and quickly go off or not even come on at all. I was using the unit by reading the numbers using a flashlight. One day I noticed the light undulating as if trying to come on and I just rubbed my finger over the light as if to try and coax it to come on. The next time I turned the unit on the light came on and stayed lit for the entire session. The light has only gone out one time since, after many sessions. The time it went out, I just rubbed the top of a finger over the display and it came on the next time the unit was started. I now make a habit of rubbing it every time I turn it on. It has not failed since. Sounds funny as it might just be my karma, but I think it more likely that it works because of a slight static charge that I create with the light rubbing of my finger. Just thought you might like to know. Doc Mason

Check the internal memory battery if there is one, then reset the sleep setting? Check the manual regarding memory back up.
