If you know what capacitors are faulty you can replace them.

Do not attempt to service a switch-mode power supply.

Buy another laptop power supply. We recommend Delta or Lite-on

Sony Vaio PCG-71911M VPCEH2N1E schematic

If the power socket is damaged, it will not charge. There are no service manuals available for this model. They are all kept in house.

I have a Zumax Technology, Model Zu400w(X1) pc power supply that simply quit. It's not a fuse issue. I'm needing a schematic to troubleshoot this. I am a qualified electronics tech and have

The Zumax ZU400W model of the X1 series, is just a regular Switched-Mode Power Supply.

Budget unit with low quality hardware components inside,

http://www.zumaxpower.com/products/zu400w.htm

http://www.directron.com/zu400w.html

1) Low quality Electrolytic Capacitors
2) Low quality MOSFET's.
3) Low quality Rectifier Bridge
4) Wiring is small gauge.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:ATX_power_supply_interior-1000px_transparent.png

Weakest link are the Electrolytic Capacitors.

Note*
It is because of the Electrolytic Capacitors, that there is a electrical hazard warning on the case.

An Electrolytic Capacitor can hold a charge for weeks, months, sometimes over a year, when removed from power.

If the 'tech' comes in contact with the terminals (Leads) of a capacitor, and it is charged, the charge can be released to the 'tech'.

If the 'tech' completes a circuit with their fingers, that one or more capacitors are in, the charge can be released to the 'tech'.
Shock can be bad to fatal.

Capacitors are Properly discharged before working on the unit.
(P-R-O-P-E-R-L-Y )

In the Power Supply cutout look at the letter B.
This is a top view of two large Electrolytic Capacitors. These two are used in the Input Stage.

Incoming AC electricity is filtered by these two 'Caps'.
They are probably rated at 100 to 160 Volts.

Think what will happen if they are not properly discharged, and your fingers touch their leads. (Or complete a circuit they are in)

The capacitors used are Radial Aluminum Electrolytic Capacitors.

Vostro 1000 wont charge also 2nd machine same model has a ic blown on mainboard where can i get a schematic diagram also is there a general known fault with the charging circuiton this model . Rgds

Schematics for Dells are generally unavailable.
The not charging is normally due to a failure on the charging circuit or damage to the power plug (If ac adapter will not run system or if you have to play with the power connection.)
Replacement motherboards start at about $75

Laptop will not charge from working adaptor

You may have damaged the dc connector on the motherboard. If the battery is not charging either then take the laptop to a repair shop and have them check the dc connector.

Lost a Cap, MX3228

The capacitor is most likely an electrolytic type, these are a round cyclinder device and they are polarised. From its location near the power jack it is most lkely more than 50uF and more than 20V. The information on the capactance and voltage of the capacitor is printed on the capacitor. If you are going to purchase a new one, make sure you get an exact replacement because if it is bigger in value eg. microfarad and voltage it will be too big to fit on the motherbard and if it is a lesser value, it will fail and not perform as required.
The capacitor is polarised eg + & - legs on the capacitor and these must be soldered in the correct direction on the motherboard, the white stripe on the capacitor marks the negative lead of the capacitor.
If the capacitor fell off during de-soldering of the power jack, you must have applied too much heat for this capacitor to fall off. If the capacitor is not damaged you could solder it back on the motherboard.
You should be using a temoerature controlled soldering iron, applying excessive heat to a motherboard can damage the motherboard as these boards are multilayer boards, there are circuit tracks on top, below and in the middle of the board. make sure you don't put solder across printed circuit tracks, carefully check the motherboard under a magnifying glass.

I have a dell lattitude d610 that it wont turn on at all i already check voltage on the charger it gave me 18 volts and battery is fully charge when i plug it nothing turn on neither lights does this...

Laptops are notorious for having the adapter plug come loose from the motherboard although, most laptops will power off of the battery if this happens (if the battery has a good charge). Some laptops have a DC power board that can burn out. Or in some cases, It can be the power button bar. If you are not comfortable trying to repair it yourself, I suggest taking it to a reputable repair shop but it will probably cost you quite a bit to get it fixed. If you know someone who does this type of repair you might check with them.
