Hi,to be able to save messages the messages in memory cards, Since you said that Nokia PC suite only does backup for phone memory,i would sugest that you save the messages inside the phone memory on your PC, and transfer the messages on the memory storage device into the phone memory so that you will able to save the messages inside the PC.
After saving Possible messages,you can now transfer back the message fromyour PC back tothe phone memory.Just a suggestion.
I suppose you didnt insert any password to your memory card.If you didnot put password then you can unlock the memory card by seeing the below youtube video

You can change your memory to 2GB if the present one is full. connect the mobile using the cable to the PC. the mobile will shut off and you can go through the files within the memory. save off the files to the memory card and relieve your memory. You can save the text messages into the computer using the software from Motorola. Motorola Phone Tools allow you to transfer all the information between the cellphone and the computer. You can get it from store.motorola.com Also remmber that you are not gonna be able to save text messages or contacts information in a memory card. The memory card allow you to transfer just Multimedia stuff as music pictures or videos. Good luck
