You can usually change the region code but only 4 times then it locks to whatever region you picked last.
You don't need to make it region free, just download a program called AnyDVD by Slysoft. It's runs in the background and removes protection from any movie dvd you put in the drive.

DVD Regions Information The DVD region code identifies a DVD's compatibility...

DVD Regions Information

The DVD region code identifies a DVD's compatibility with the players typically sold in a particular region.

Region 0 (or "region free") is compatible with DVD players from any region.

The majority of all current titles play only in one specific region unless otherwise noted. DVDs sold by Amazon.co.uk are encoded for Region 2 or Region 0. Region 2 DVDs may not work on DVD players in other countries.

Region 1 DVDs sold by Marketplace sellers

Region 1 discs are intended for use with standard DVD players in North America (Canada and the USA). In most instances they can also be played on compatible "multi-region" DVD players (also known as "chipped" or "region-free" players).

They also require an NTSC-compatible television. NTSC is the standard picture format in North America, and differs from the PAL format adopted in Britain and Europe. Region 1 DVDs are usually presented in NTSC format, so you should ensure that your TV is capable of reading the NTSC signal before purchasing Region 1 DVDs.

Regional Coding Enhancement (RCE)

Regional Coding Enhancement (RCE) has been added by some film studios (specifically Warner and Columbia) to selected Region 1 DVDs, with the intention of preventing these discs from playing on some multi-region DVD players. We are therefore unable to guarantee that all Region 1 discs will be compatible with all multi-region players.

You can switch the region manually but it will lock out after few switches. Use this utility to do without this problem.

I have a acer aspire 5741 laptop and i have run out of changes for playing all different region dvd's how can i unlock this so i can play all regions all the time?

One you have run out of changes then you may be able to upgrade the firmware to make the player Region Free, but if you make a mistake the phe player is a piece of junk.
The best solution is use a region free software, please click on this link for region free programs :-

i`m pressuming you are in the uk ? if so !

Go to acer arcade deluxe
select "Play Movie"
Select "settings"
select "BD settings"
Select "region code"
Select "region B" for the UK

Important Note!:
You can only change your region !!! 5 !!!! times!
that is 5 times!
I am totally stressing this.....5 times!

You may have to do this a second time so your computer locks on to this region code.
If you watch an american blu-ray vid, on the fifth change of the region code your computer locks to this region !FOREVER!
