What a mess of a question! Absolutely run some updates on your OS, look in your Administrative Tools for logs about spooling and printing, and make sure those Lexmark drivers are also the latest versions (from the web, not the CD that shipped with the printer.) Your computer is pretty irrelevant unless the error relates to something unique about it; a correct problem classification would be all about your model of Lexmark, would it not? And in particular, the way Windows XP printing fails in the manner of pretending to pass something along to print, with whatever Lexmark settings you select, but nothing comes out even when you select the device from the Start menu under Printers and FAXes, even if you set the printer to Use Printer Online, right? All clear then.
