I have Casio's and KonicaMinolta and they are programmed to turn off the screen if not used within 1-2 minutes. This is usually a kind of standby for the KonicaMinolta but for my Casio, it really turns off to save on battery. Did you read the manual on how to program the "Turn off after x no. of minutes" or something that sounds like that?

The issue is with the AF sensor, you going to need to have a camera shop look at it for you or have factory repair done on the camera. The issue is with the AF sensor.
