SOURCE: Harman Kardon AVR 7000 loosing memory

This is what's in the AVR7000 service manual:

Subject: Backup Memory on AVR/DPR/HK series receivers.
In the event of the complaint: “the receiver is losing its memory (any programmed system settings)
when the unit is turned off, or after the unit is unplugged (briefly*)”:

Check and replace:
Model: AVR7000
Designator: C730
Location: Front PCB
Description: 0.047 Farad 5.5v capacitor
Part number: # P10790-ND or # J3432147324X

I'm having the same problem and this is how far i got so far. I don't kwow how to get and replace this part.

SOURCE: Harman Kardon go + play problem

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Appreciate the direct "Ask Me".

Initially, pls try cleaning the battery terminals. In some instances, it may be necessary to scrape them to remove corrosion. Still there are times they may have to be bent or stretched to ensure that they provide more pressure to the batteries. Alternately, pls try to confirm that the AC adapter is working by checking for the presence of voltage on the plug/connector with the use of a voltmeter.

Should the above not address your concern, then it is most likely that the problem is internal electronics and the unit is simply going into protective mode. You then have a choice of performing a DIY (do-it-yourself) or seeking the services of a qualified professional.

Good luck and Thank you for using FixYa. Happy Holidays.

SOURCE: taking apart harman/kardon subwoofer

turn the sub upsidedown, carefully remove the clear rubber feet (these are a dome fitted over a mushroom top), using the toothed gripper cutout of a pair of pliers (when closed it is the eye shaped opening visible on one side), grip the mushroom firmly but not so hard as to crush the mushroom and gently ease clockwise and anticlockwise (the mushroom is at one end of a clear plug blocking access to the four screws that hold the two parts together.
Be carefull to use the correct size screwdriver so as not to damage the screw heads as they are tight.
On reassembly, you may need to use glue to replace the rubber feet if the mushroom becames damages during removal.

My cd player FL 8400 skips and then you hear static

wow static from a digital source , this is something id not heard of before , although I have found that 75% of cd skips are from a disk problem -scratches or dust , not very often do I see a six beam tracking laser skip unless there's an obvious fault there (forign object(s) in three beam balance)

FL 8350 CD Player. Disc drawer will not open. Getting error message

Most likely a belt has stretched and will not now move the tray. This happens of units more than 2 years old usually.

Will not retain presets

Many times a capacitor is used in place of an actual battery. On Harman Kardon receivers this component is on the front side circuit board behind the receivers external display. Harman Kardons website provides the actual location and part number if you dig around for the service manual PDF.

My Harman Kardon FL 8550 will not play, the display shows error and the carousel seems stuck. I already cleaned the lens.

Couple possibilities.

Disc jammed inside, take cover off and inspect.

Worn belts, belts are old and worn and it can't move the carousel or open, stripped gears will also have the same effect.

Or electronic problem, not worth repairing.
