Just copy and paste the above link in your address bar, it will bring you to the file download site. It would be helpful if you have a free 7-zip program or WINRAR or other file extracting program to open the file once download. Or download from compaq site
Don't upgrade unless you are planning on installing a new graphics board (VGA). The specs on this PC show that it has an Intel 865G graphics solution. There are no Vista drivers for this chip-set. It is possible that the XP drivers will work but I wouldn't count on it. Probably the same goes for the sound board. Not worth it. Besides that XP is better than Vista anyway. If you want to upgrade, wait for Windows 7 to be released, then take the money you would have spent on this PC and put it towards a new core2 duo or core2 quad. According to the beta testing, Windows 7 will be MUCH better than Vista. I think the release date supposed to be sometime around the middle of 2009? Don't quote me on that. Hope this helped. If so, please remember to rate me. Thanks.
You can download the drivers for your model laptop from the Compaq WEB site, their support/download page. Make sure you download the XP version of the drivers. http://www.compaq.com/cpq-country/cpq_support.html

You will need to use a computer that has Internet connection, when you have downloaded the drivers, copy them and install them on your laptop.
Your Compaq came with Vista installed. Finding drivers for XP Pro with SP2 seem to be very troublesome. Somewhere HP Compaq has these drivers for you laptop. If you call them & they find out you bought XP Pro they will not support you in finding the proper drivers for XP Pro. How ever you can call & ask what it will cost for a recovery CD for XP Pro w/SP2.
