Overload fault in the power supply or a short in one of its load circuits. In some cases, the low voltage (including B+) will just be reduced to a fraction of their normal value as a result of an overload on one of the outputs - usually the main B+.This may be caused by a shorted rectifier in the power supply, flyback, or even the yoke, but check the the loads first.

Why would it get hot once coex cable hooked up and scanning for channels? tv gets hot and shuts off.

I would check that there is not a problem with the power supply to the set. If it gets hot and shuts of the power may be faulty and could be causing component failure.

if you turn the power on then the indicator light turn green and then suddenly it red, that was mean has an error detected by the main board. the cause either a failure in the power supply, shorted in the power inverter board or bad main board. to fix the problem it needs proper trouble shooting. just let me know if you will be the one to do the repair so i can give you further assistance, since it need proper device and technical knowledge to fix the problem.

I have a TH-42PX80U. The picture went black and the red light does NOT blink. I tried a different power cord in a different outlet and still won't turn on.

More likely to have power supply module failure, that will be the first place to look.
Most common failures in PLASMA TV are due to bad power supply module, Z and Y Sustain modules.

50 inch plasma phillips won't turn on repeated clicking noise

This is likely the relay that connects the AC to the main power supply although in a plasma TV it could indicate a failure of the high voltage power supply for the display itself.
Turning on most sets causes a small power supply for the infrared remote receiver to connect the main power supply to AC. If the power supply itself is defective, the relay interrupts or if the supply is still healthy, it may disconnect the AC again to prevent damage to the main supply and possibly a fire.
Since there are two primary sources for this problem and no good way to separate them as the faulty part, you will need a tech to be on site to determine exactly which failure has occurred.

50 in LG turns on and then clicks and turns back off

The power supply is going in to protect mode. Most often this is a power supply failure, or a failure on one of the circuit boards that is causing the power supply to go in to protect.

If the power supply fault is not too complicated an experienced tech may be able to service it without changing the compete circuit board.

The tech will service this by substituting boards to determine where the failure is occuring. Then he will change the board to fix the fault.
