Question about Canon PowerShot SD600 Digital Camera

1 Answer

My camera got wet on the boat this weekend...lights out now

I have a Canon PowerShot SD600 that's about 2-3 years old. It used to work fine, but was getting a little beat up. Anyway, I am trying to decide if I should get it fixed or just replace it. I don't want to spend more then $100 on it. What does water damage repair usually cost???

Hey SmmrCndw,
As far as what water damage would cost to repair it would really depend on what internally is damaged by the water which we can't determine until it is looked at by an authorized service technician. I will say that most camera repairs exceed the value of the camera. Although this is a nice camera, camera technology has grown exponentially in the last 2-3 years, and a $100 would go a long way towards the purchase of a much better camera. I hope this helps!

Sincerely,
Allan

Canon S5 died.

If it was less than a year old, I hope you sent it to Canon for repair.

If not, then you have to have your camera professional serviced to repair it.

It may be an internal switch, the DC/DC converter board, or a defect in the main board.

Best regards,

Canon powershot s2 IS suddenly does nothing when powered on

There appears to be an issue with the S2 IS after two years.  See the reviews on Canon's website: http://www.usa.canon.com/consumer/controller?act=ModelInfoAct&tabact=DownloadDetailTabAct&fcategoryid=322&modelid=11368#ModelDetailAct

If yours is two years old then you are probably out-of-luck.  It would probably cost more to repair than to simply replace.

You can at least save your photos by removing the memory card and reading the files using a memory card reader on a PC or MAC.

check the battery connections for corrosion if not that there is a 3.2 fuse (plastic) incasement under the on off button that may be open.

The matrix is dead. Probably because of an intensive light got into the lense while the camera was in night mode. It's dead. Nothing can be done.

I just repaired my Canon G2 with the same symptom.  The internal PCB that you plug the external AC adapter is defective.  The numbers on the board are:

Photo quality problems

Besides the issues of focus or shutter speed causing things like camera motion, the file size indicates less than highest resolution and probably more the minimal jpeg compression. Too much compression could reduce detail.
