Question about PC Desktops

1 Answer

I have Intervideo WinDVD 5 on my computer. When I try to play a DVD with it, the video is fine in the smaller window, but goes black when I go to full screen. The audio is fine.

I've used this version of WinDVD before and it seemed to work fine. This is a new problem. And my computer is only 3 yrs old.

Yes, I did. It plays fine with Windows Media Player, I like WinDVD better though, so I was hoping I could fix it.

    Thanks!

Could be your video card can't support the full screen. I reckon you have an old PC. The latest version of WINDVD is 9.

I did a reinstalation with the compaq instalation disc, there were 8,after that when i try to watch a video on either Real Player/Windows media player of winn the video moves like a robot start and stop and...

Windows XP does not natively have software to decode DVD video (thus the garbled video). You need to install a third-party DVD codec. Typically with Compaqs it came with PowerDVD or WinDVD that, once installed, allows you to view DVDs using their viewer or even media player.

Look through your CDs that came with your PC and see if there is one for WinDVD or PowerDVD and install it. Sometimes it will be on a CD labelled drivers or additional software.

Hope this helps,

I have movies on dvd, i have a dvd rom in my pc,i go to my computer and click on the dvd to play and it doesnt play, windows media player comes on like its loading but nothinh happens

What operating system do you have? If you have Vista, you may be missing the codec you need. I'd recommend getting Intervideo WinDVD or something similar for watching DVDs. You'll have much more control and a better viewing experience than using Microsoft's crappy player.

Windvd won't play on t61 laptop

If your operating system is okay,(check device manager to ensure that all your devices are installed properly too, if your video device is running on a basic windows driver then windvd might not work, you must have rhe specific one,) make sure Microsoft directX is installed..
It might be that your dvd software is incompatible with the hardware in which case try downloading powerdvd from www.oldversion.com, it costs nothing.
It might be that a device necessary to run DVD playback is not enabled, make sure all sound and video devices are enabled

I am a novice with laptops anyway i have a toshiba tecra just put a dvd in and a caption said, cant play this dvd as you have no dvd decoder. Is this something i have to buy or download?

Yes, You will need to purchase a software DVD Player such as the likes of Cyberlink Power DVD or Intervideo WinDVD,

However, Cyberlink and Intervideo sell Windows Media Player DVD Playback codec packages for $14.95 which will allow you to directly play DVD Movies on your PC.

This is not free since there are licensing involved in many decoder codecs.

My computer wont let me watch movies now. it keeps saying something about my dvd decoder wasnt installed.

if you bought the computer new or the DVD drive new , you whould have got a CD with it , most probably with something like WinDVD or something , if you have the specific CD with DVD software on it install it , as it will enable you to watch DVD's using Windows media player etc..

if you bought the computer second hand etc.. and or cant find the cd's a free solution is to download VLC media player (Download here) the only disadvantage about using this free solution is that you will have to play the DVD's through VLC you wont be able to use windows media player etc. to play DVD's as VLC does not require decoder software to play DVD's

otherwise you can purchase software such as WinDVD and this will enable you to play using your media player of choice.

Thanks!
