Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

I have a brand new Lenovo R61, but the battery doesn't last for more than 1.5 hrs even after a full charge. The spec says it should last at least 3.5 hrs. They sent me a new one but it's performing the same. I'm mostly watching downloaded video clips and surfing the web only and they should not be unusually power sucking (or so unusual that the spec'ing environment they used would be drastically different) Could it be that there's a "power eating" setting I have accidentally set? How can I extend the battery's life to what it says on the spec?

I would contact support, but the 3.5 is probably exaggerated. Spinning the CD-Rom takes juice, but you don't report doing that. You could try the power settings. Don't know where they are in Vista. Control panel, power probably.

Have the new batteries tested even if they are fairly new, I have seen newer batteries than this fail on many occasions. Also have the charging voltage checked to verify it is within specs.

How to reset lenovo thinkpad r61?

Hi,

Please follow the steps below to reset the lenovo to factory settings
Note: All your data will be lost. So keep that in mind.
So take the backup of your data first in a separate HDD or flash drive.

1. Switch off the Computer
2. Press the power button and then immediately start tapping f11 key on the top of your keyboard.
3. You will hear a beep sound and then stop pressing it.
4. You will get the screen says windows is loading files. Wait untill it finishes.
5. Select the default language which is US and Click on next .
6. Enter your login credentials (username and password) if you use to login to the windows.
7. Then you will get the system Recovery Options screen where you need to select the last option "Lenovo Product Recovery"
8. Again preferred language will be English US and hit Next.
9. Accept the terms and conditions and hit next and then hit Yes on the warning.
10. Then it will start resetting the Lenovo Think pad to the factory default with no previous data. Same as when you purchased it.

If you have any query you can ask before restoring the Computer.
Hope this helps you. Reply if that fixes your issue.

Yes, you have come up with the right answer.

Most laptop batteries do well to last 1 year before they wear out. You have done very well to stretch out 3 years on this battery. Good work!

If you want some help finding a replacement battery, please reply with the full model number of the laptop and I'll track one down for you.

Thanks for using FixYa and Happy New Year!
