Question about Computers & Internet

1 Answer

My computer seems to freeze or go to sleep if I leave it in TotalAccess for too long. I could be viewing my email, go to dinner, and come back to reuse the computer, and the next email won't open. If I click on it, the whole screen opens up, but there is no message.

Yes, you can re-freeze it, but I would not leave it frozen for more than a couple weeks.

Can you catch up on sleep on the weekend by taking a sleeping tablet and just sleeping a lot more than you do during the week?

No - if you sleep a lot more on the weekend, it's a sign that you have a sleep debt and your body is trying to get more sleep than usual. But it doesn't help your body to feel less tired. You need to spread out your sleeping over the whole week and not try and cram it all into one night.

If I leave my netbook alone for a few minutes, it freezes and I have to power down and start up again. Why???

It is likely going into a sleep mode.

You can try updating your BIOS to see if this resolves the problem, otherwise you can disable sleep mode from occuring.

I am going to assume you have Windows OS.

- BIOS drivers will be available from the Asus website.

----

To disable sleep mode:

- Click the battery icon at the bottom right of the screen.
- Select 'More Power Options'
- On either plan, choose 'Change plan settings'.
- Change 'Put Computer to Sleep' to 'Never' for both settings.

Good luck.

My old (vintage 2000) CRT monitor (Dell) occasionally goes into sleep mode and nothing I do will "wake it up".

You could try turning it off and back on again when it does that, or pressing a few of the buttons on it.

If you would like to prevent it from going into sleep in the first place, you could try changing the settings in the control panel, turning off the monitor before you leave (to prevent it having a chance to go to sleep mode), or just shut down your whole computer before you leave. That is probably the best option, because it is a lot healthier for your computer to just have your computer shut off instead of leaving it on all the time. It may also save some money on your power bill, depending on how many things you have with it and how much power it actually uses.

Must restart computer to open the internet again

Seems like you need to configure the Power Saving settings so your Network card does not go to sleep. Alternatively, set the hard disk to "Never Sleep", so your drivers don't go offline.
