Help ive tried to back up several disks today and after it reads them and i put a blank in to make my backup, i continually get a message that says there is a log file error, how do i solve this problem???

are you sure the drive is a read-writer? some optical drives are read only. If its not a writer and you put a blank in, that is what it would do.

If you put a real and recorded disk in(not a copy) and it says unknown disk, the eye is dirty. Cleaning the drive will be the next step.

Try using a laser lens cleaning disk. If that doesn't do it check you data cable from the drive to the motherboard.

This means that you should try to copy all the pictures from the device onto your computer's disk-drive, while you still can!

Or, select a bunch of images, and burn them to CD/DVD-writable disks. Select another bunch, and repeat.

IT could be youre using a different type of CD-R , MAKE sure CD PLAYER matches with the correct CD-R format eg. CD-R- CD-R+ , CD-RW , etc. thanks AJ

Its only cd writer burner and can only that it can read dvd disc also. That is why its called combo. But burning blank dvd it can't. But if you want buy some dvdburner too.

You have a damaged read laser. You can either send your unit in for service, if it is under warranty or replace it.

The no-disc message indicates that the optics could not read the disk. Carefully clean the lens using a cotton swab and alcohol. Next try a music CD. If the CD works but the DVD continues to fail, the optics are defective and should be replaced.

I have a new HP Pavilion Ultimate - d49967 - Desktop PC. The program is HPs "Create backup copies of your files/folders."

When I try to format the disk the dialog box does not appear to allow choices. I then tried to use the disk and that is when I was told the "disk is not blank." I purchased the package containing the disks yesterday and opened the package today.

Last time this happened to me, I had to reformat and reinstall windows. I tried all those modes, and I even tried the windows repair. None of that worked, I just did a complete new install. All of the data will be lost, if you do this.

My advice, if you need some of the data on that hard drive, you need to hook the drive up to another computer and backup what you need.

Or buy another hard drive, install windows on the new drive. Now slave the old and backup the data.
