Question about Samsung HLP4663W 46" Rear Projection HDTV

1 Answer

Color wheel the band was getting very loud and then turning off at times until it got more frequent until I replaced the color wheel. Then the color on the tv was all messed up.faces were very blue or green. Lots of greens and blues.I know I fixed my original problem by replacing the color wheel but then to see the color problem I put the old one back in and the picture was perfect but the loud winding sound was still there so I know everything lies within the wheel...I guess. In the old color wheel the picture is perfect but there is winding noise and then the tv shuts off. with the new color wheel the sound is gone but the color is all messed up.I wonder if they sent me the wrong wheel. I gave them the exact info off the tv for the correct wheel.

Could be a jumper on the DMD board that must be removed, look for a small sticker that points to the jumper, or it could be a setting in the factory mode, mute-182-power will get you in there, check the settings for the color wheel

I'm experiencing a loud buzzing (fan?) sound that just started recently while watching my HLP5674W. The picture is fine, but the sound of what may be a fan or something like that is very loud and will...

Loud sound would be coming from defective color wheel that is mounted i light engine, next to lamp housing. Replacement of color wheel is required expertise/ experience and professional will do that for you in correct and in safe manner.
Contact local tv repair shop to get color wheel replaced in tv.
Thanks.

Wont turn on loud ossilating humming lamp light blinks for a few minuits then all three lights blink

YOU may have a bad color wheel, it is very common. The wheel will before it fails produce a loud high pitched sound and or a grinding noise.

The wheel turns at 14,000 RPM and they frequently fail.

if the wheel is shattered the set should not allow the lamp to come on (you should be able to look behind the set and see if lamp comes on for even a few seconds)

See attached photo of color wheel used in some of these sets; if it is the problem the internet not only offers them for sale but there are video and written instructions for customer replacement of this part.

If this has told you something you did not know rate this solution as very helpful as I do this here for free.

RCA HD50LPW42. Sound so loud it sounds like a jet engine coming from TV (very loud whining sound). I assume this is my color-wheel, but I'm not sure.Turns off when TV turns off.

You need a replacement color wheel or have yours rebuilt since the RCA color wheels are on nationwide back order. You can get your wheel rebuilt at the following link

Samsung DLP HL-R4266W..no sound or picture. TV is completely dead

Assuming the noise is a high-pitched whine, then yes, it is the color wheel.  If the color wheel goes out, the TV will turn on for a while, then turn off when it can't establish color wheel sync.  The color wheel has to be in sync with the mirrors on the DLP, so if sync can't be established, the TV turns off.
You can order a new color wheel from Sears or partstore.com (among other places) and replace it yourself, if you are so inclined.
