My hotmail account is blocked

In the age of instant messaging and constant messages from friends and sometimes less-than friends, it's no wonder Windows Live Messenger (formerly MSN) and other instant message systems have the ability to block certain contacts.
For the blocked, however, this process can be uncomfortable.
There are methods available online for you to check if your friend has simply been absent from their messenger or if you have been blocked.

Open a browser window and go to the website Block Status (see Below).
http://www.blockstatus.com/msn/stchecker
In the top, middle-right tabs you will see the option for "Block Checker."
Click Block Checker to open a page with a text box requesting the Windows Live Messenger email address of the person you think has blocked you.
The "Windows Live Messenger" address can alternatively be Gmail, Hotmail, Live or Yahoo email addresses.

Type in an email address and click "Check Status."
A text box will appear with a status updater informing you if you have been blocked or if the contact is simply offline.

Checking on MSN

Open Window Live Messenger and sign in.

Scroll through your contacts list and right-click on the contact you wish to check. Scroll down and click the "View Profile" tab.

Check in the contact's "Notes" section.
If you cannot post a message there, it means you have been blocked.

Who Blocked Me

Log on to the website WhoBlockedMe (see Below).
http://www.whoblocked.me/index.php?lang=en

Log in to your Messenger with your email and password using the text boxes.
(Change your Windows Live Messenger password after using this system for safety reasons.)

Click the tab "Click To See Who Blocked You" to see a list of those who have blocked you.
This also works to find out who has deleted you completely.

How to delete messages

Many instant message programs are set, by default, to save your chat history.
This might not be a desirable feature for people who share a computer with others since it could pose a security threat.
Delete the folder in which the history is saved or delete the chat history within the instant message program.
Popular instant messenger programs, such as Yahoo!, Windows Live and Skype, simplify the process of clearing message archives.

Delete archived messages in Yahoo! Messenger.
Open Yahoo! Messenger.
Click on "Messenger" on the toolbar and select "Preferences."
Click "Clear Archive Now" to delete your chat.
Clear chat history in Windows Live Messenger.
Open the program and click the first icon from the right at the top of the box.
This is the "Show Menu" icon. Highlight "File" and click "View Message History."
Select a contact from your list to view messages from or to that contact.
Click "OK."
Click "Delete History" at the top of the "Message History" window.

Erase your conversation history in Skype.
Launch the program and click on "Privacy Settings."
Click the "Clear History" button under the "Keep History For" section.
This will delete all saved conversations.

Clean the message archives in Google Talk.
Click "Settings" on the toolbar and select "Chat" from the list of options.
Click the "Don't Save" option and click "OK."

Delete all message archives with an application.
Programs such as Cyber Scrub, WinClear and ParetoLogic Privacy Controls will delete the history from any instant messaging program, as well as tracking data from your Internet activity. Many of these programs are available for download.

How do i know when my friends have me block or are on invisible while they online?

There are various web application that is able to reveal invisible Yahoo Messenger user, XEEBER and Invisible scanner are the better ones in the market, its free!As for MSN Messenger, there is only one tool available, the Show Invisible MSN Messenger Status detector, it reveals, finds, and detects you and your contact lists MSN information and inform you all you want to know about your contacts. For example which person deleted or blocked you.

For those who are curious about which of his/her friends deleted or blocked them, do give the service a try but be cautious, I believe the tool is meant to be some sort of email harvesting application or another email hijacking tool created by spammers. Give it a try but remember to change your password as soon as you’re done with it.
Rule number one, never reveal your password to other company besides the original service provider.

Here is a cool little MSN Name Trick that allows you to have an invisible MSN Screen Name. This nickname trick should work for most versions of Messenger (ie MSN 6, 7.5, 8.0). Just follow these instructions:
  • Open the Options window so you can change your MSN Name
  • Hold down ALT on your keyboard and type in 0160 using the Numeric Keypad (usually on the right side of your keyboard)
  • Click OK to save your new Invisible MSN Name!

Problem with MSN

Hi there and welcome at Fixya, the support team (lfete)

Sometimes, the user (the contact) update their names that they would like to show when other messenger contacts add his/hers contact to messenger . That´s means your contact name get reset to the default what the contact may have been chosen. You can always edit the name again by right-click on the name and choose edit name.

BTW: It happens some times that the contact names get reset of other reasons (bugs)

Hope it helps
IF NOT then try to return here

Have a nice time over there

Names are not visible in contact list in msn messenger 9.0

Have you set up the configuration / preferences for Ver 9 properly? Make sure under layout you have show offline contacts selected (at bottom) - then go through the rest of the preferences on by one and make sure they are correctly set.

To get to the settings
The third button on right of "Search contacts or..." is your main menu button - click it
Go to Tools->Options->Layout

If this helped please remember to vote

Window messenger runing without asking password

First off 2 questions,
Which operating system are you using, and which brand of computer.

Secondly, Windows messenger and MSN messenger are two different programs and hopefully the information below will help sort out which is which.
On Windows XP and presumably later, "Windows Messenger" is another instant messaging client, very much like MSN Messenger. It is installed when you install Windows XP and runs only on Windows XP. (The updated Windows Messenger 5.0 also runs on Windows 2000 and can be downloaded here).
While Windows Messenger and MSN Messenger look very similar, they in fact are two separate applications. The good news is that either can be used to access the same .NET Messaging Service contacts. That's the default instant messaging service for both and the one you'll use on the internet. What that really means is that if all you're doing is instant messaging your friends and family on the internet, it doesn't matter which one you use and changing from one to the other is not a problem.
Unfortunately, as I said, they are two different programs. They have slightly different feature sets and release on different schedules. In particular, Windows Messenger is more tightly integrated with applications such as Microsoft Exchange, Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Outlook Express, or the Remote Assistance feature of Windows XP. The differences and the confusion don't end there, though. Microsoft has a Knowledgebase article that touches on more of the technical differences and provides instructions for installing and running both on the same machine. The good news is that most likely you'll never need to know how or why you would want to.
But sadly, the confusion does not end there. There is yet another Windows "Messenger".
On Windows 2000 and Windows XP there is a service called "Messenger". It's unfortunately often referred to as the "Windows Messenger" that is used to present what can best be called "network messages" to a machine's user. This is not an instant messaging application, but rather software that runs in the background listening for incoming messages and popping up a very simple box containing the message when one arrives. The most common example might be in a corporate environment when you send a document to a network printer. The messenger service handles the pop-up message that the printer sends back when it has finished.
Unfortunately the Messenger Service has been exploited by spammers to pop-up unwanted advertising messages on unprotected machines on the internet. The average user has absolutely no need for the Windows Messenger Service and thus it can safely be turned off. To do so, go to Start -> Programs -> Accessories -> Administrative Tools -> Computer Management -> Services & Applications -> Services. Double click "Messenger" and set the "Startup Type" to Disabled. You can also "Stop" the service at that same dialog. (You can also grab a copy of 10 Quick Steps to Stopping Pop-Up Ads for help stopping this and other pop-up annoyances.)
Think we're done? Guess again. There's one more instant messaging client I want to briefly mention.
If you play certain games on MSN's Gaming Zone, you may also be presented with a small application called "ZoneFriends". Yes, you guessed it, it's yet another instant messaging application. It's specifically for chatting among the folks you're playing your online games with.
Thankfully though, the word "Messenger" is nowhere to be seen.
