Re: Yamaha RX-V363 input settings
HI,you are not getting picture because the yam 363 dose not upscale or convert the picture from the composite input to hdmi. You will have to put a video cable from the composite out put on the amp to a scart convertor into the tv or put console picture into the tv and sound to the amp.

try connecting the hdmi out from cable box to your tv hdmi input, and leave the hdmi out from tv to the reciever where it is, leaving reciever selected to 'TV' and yes, a sub matters (it is not part of your problem but you need the bass a sub provides)
I have the same receiver... You can try pressing the Option button and choosing Signal Info to see what audio signal the receiver sees and if that changes over time. Maybe the cable box is not outputting according to specifications... TV can live with that, but receiver maybe can't. You can also try to connect the cable box via SPDIF cable (optical or coax) to see if it helps or not.
hook up hdmi cable from cable box to receiver hdmi input 1 then from hdmi out to your projector or tv,i don't know what kind of inputs you have on your projector .whatever you have run from projector to receiver input example component red, blue, green then run from both say to the av input 1 then set your receiver to av1 and you should get picture.
this sounds strange, but is true. you need to run your digital audio optical cable from your tv to your receiver (after, of course, connecting tv/receiver via hdmi). so, hdmi from blue ray to rec - hdmi from rec to tv - then optical from tv back to rec. it's round about, but that is how yamaha says (and the only way it works) to do it.
The HDMI on the RX-v363 does not pass the audio. You need to either connect an optical or digital cable from your audio source. If it is a cable box or DVD player there should be audio outputs in addition to HDMI
If yes use the HDMI DVD input on your receiver ( from the Blue Ray using a HDMI cable )
Then use an HDMIcable from receiver to TV.
That should work for image. Sound would only work directly from TV, to have sound on receiver:
Use either optical or coax cable to direct digital sound from blueray to receiver.
Best is optic, depends on blueray or cable availability ... Coax = RCA cables @ 75 Ohms, use of a spare RGB would work find (using only one of three color available let's say using Red only) or try with any RCA cable.
direct cable from blueray to receiver ( Digital inputs at far left looking back of receiver num 7 in owner manual, choose DVD )
If no sound from receiver check Audio select from option menu ( set to auto )
