    I'm having the same problem.

The flickering of the monitor is intermittent (on and off)

A troubleshoot tip that I got was to change the refresh rate but I can't change the refresh rate (only option is 60hz)

    I've tried changing resolution...

I tried uninstalling the driver (another troubleshoot tip) and reinstaling the video driver as well as reformatting my computer.(Last resort)

    It's still flickering. :(

This PC is about 5 years old.

Also... I hear like a squeaking sound coming from the monitor that I've never heard prior to having this issue.

MONITOR ABCs
The monitor is a hardware device which physically connects to your video card. The monitor allows information and current status be be visually outputted similar to a TV.
Screen Flickers - monitor.gif Like most TVs, the computer monitor has a CRT, or Cathode Ray Tube, which is found inside the computer monitor as illustrated in the above picture. The CRT is the main component and most expensive part within your computer monitor. Within the CRT are three electron guns, Red, Green and Blue. Each of these guns streams a steady flow of electrons, left to right, for each line of your monitor. As the electrons hit the phosphors on the CRT, the phosphor will glow certain intensities. As a new line begins, the guns will then begin at the left and continue right; these guns will repeat this process sometimes thousands of times until the screen has been completely drawn line by line. Once the phosphors on the CRT have been hit with an electron they will only glow for a short period of time; because of this, the CRT must be refreshed, which means the process will be repeated as explained above. If the video card's refresh rate is not set high enough, you may encounter a flicker or a noticeable steady line scrolling from the top to the bottom of your screen. If you are encountering this issue, resolutions have been described on our video card page.

MINIMUM RESOLUTION The size is an important factor of the computer's running resolution. When picking the resolution, try basing it off the monitor's size for best use. 13-inch 640 x 480 15-inch 800 x 600 17-inch 1,024 x 768 21-inch 1,280 x 1,024

Bad videocard is my bet. Could also be a bad monitor. I'd recommend hooking up a second monitor to test with. If it doesn't do it, bad monitor. If it does, you're probably looking at replacing the graphics card.

You might want to start in the safe mode. Right after you reboot your computer keep pressing f8 and it should start in safe mode. Once there you could then possibly see if you can solve the problem.

Good luck,

Emachine screen flickers from left to right

make sure the cable connections to and from the LCD and PC are tightened straight in place, tighten each side a little each time, taking turns. Do Not Overtighten. If there is a Video Card installed, turn off the machine, remove the cable to the Video card, remove the video card, SLOWLY, incase it is a PCI-E because it will have a locking tab on the Right side. Unlock, reinstall, reconnect cable, start machine. Also, make sure the cable is connected to the Screen correctly, and if there is a Transformer between the power cable and the screen, make sure it is tight in place. Take your time and good luck.

My laptop beeps on start-up (when logging in).

Hey there, Jiggyboo!
From what you're telling us, it may be something as simple as having a key on the keyboard stuck down. A key may have gone bad, or something may have gotten dropped down between and/or underneath a key. Check out all of the keys to see if this is the case. Hold up the keyboard and look across the tops of the keys. They should all be the same height. Also, you can try slowly pressing each key and make sure that they all feel the same. I would especially start with the keys that you use to enter your password as that seemed to be when the problem started.
Hope this helps and have a good day.

Reboot into Safe Mode by repeatingly tapping on F8 while in process of rebooting and then select "last known good configuration". If that fails reboot again to safe mode and select safe mode with command prompt and in the command prompt type "chkdsk /f /r " <enter>

If that doesnt work do place your Windows CD into the Cd-Rom, reboot and select option "Repair"

Keyboard failure

Boot up the computer while pressing F8. A page with different menus appear. Select safe mode. Computer may respond slowly but have patience. When the names Administrator, Guest and usernames appears select administrator. For password press enter key. Once the window screen appears in safe mode go to --Start---Programmes--accessories--system tools----system restore.

Here u may be able to restore to a date where computer was working fine.

Screen Wiggles, CPU Shuts Self Off, Powers Up Very Slowly

Hmm... Any errors on the screen?

Could be a power supply. Fluctuations in that can cause power drops, which would be visible in the video card, and if severe enough, cause the PC to shut off. There are 4 screws and one 1 wire holding those in. It would take about 10 minutes to replace and probably cost you $40-$50 in parts.

To have Geeks do it: Probably $100.
