When i go to burn a cd, it starts to burn then about two songs in it says cancelling disk burn then comes up with a message saying there is an unknown error 4450??

Try to change the speed of burning. Like if you re burning in 32x, make it 16x. If you are burning at 16x then burn it at 8x. Also close other programs while burning a disc.

Thanks for using Fixya!

Rcd159a boom box PLL digital radio- plays all the old mp3 cd's with a write speed 16x & under but any newly burnt one with the high speed disks fail

That's not unusual. Slower burning speed results in a deeper burn which is easier for some players to read. Unlike commercial discs which are highly reflective, burned CDs don't bounce as much light back to the laser in the pickup. Too fast a writing speed when burning can make some discs unreadable. This is why some older players can't read burned CDs at all; they were never sensitive enough to begin with. It's always a good idea to keep the write speed low (16x or so) when making CDs that will be played back in a regular CD player or boom box.

This problem is more likely to occur as the CD pickup ages and the laser weakens. If higher-speed burned discs used to play and now are having problems, it's probably time to replace the boombox (or the pickup assembly if you're ambitious). If the higher-speed discs never played, the player just can't deal with them and you'll need to keep the write speed down when burning CDs.

Low burn speed

I had the same problem before upgrading my RAM. Seems video burning software like nero are RAM hogs; if you do not have a large amount of RAM then it slowers the burning speed down to a crawl.[ BTW I didn't get maximum burning speeds using nero on a Windows Vista computer until I upgraded to 2 GB RAM] Hope this helps & please remember to rate my answer.

1) Do not pay attention to speed burning, in my opinion the slower the better.

2) the burner may be dusty, buy a dry dvd lens cleaner and use it.

3) try other media like Verbatiom or Teac and compare results.

4) the lifespan of any burner (depends on use) is about 18 months (my nec 7170-AD stopped working after 10 months), you may have exeded the life span of your burner, replace with new one.

Writing to DVD takes excessive amount of time

The problem is that you might not have sufficient memory. Try burning @ 8x. Burning DVDs at 16x is a speed higher than the speed @ which file transfer takes place within the pc. So the lack of availability of memory slows down the proces. I once had the same problem.

I hope u find it helpful sir...

Problems recording DVD-R 16X

Try this download page to update your firmware from 25/10/05, so if you bought your writer before this date maybe this will work, otherwise buy 8x discs. http://sony.storagesupport.com/dvdrw/firmware.htm#710 The faster the discs are burned the more chance of errors there are, you should write at slower speeds for better quality.
