If wires are busted, you're out of luck. Could try taking it to a tech type to see if they can pull the information off of it, but odds are you're looking at buying a new flash drive.

PNP means PLUG N PLAY = USB device thats hooked up in the computer. remove all usb devices on the computer and one by one start reconnecting the usb devices and turning the computer off and on as you connect each one.. This will sometimes happen if you have any external hard drive that connects usb or any usb devices that you recently connected. Also inspect your usb outlet on your computer to make sure they are not bent or broken.
hope that helps

check for the switch when you power on the computer if it stuck while pressing it, if so put some small amount of oil in the corner of that switch, if the switch has no problem when you press it open the computer make sure its not plug in then remove the heatsink that has a big fan and four lock on its side using a screwdriver remove the dried thermal paste replace it with new thermal paste you can purchase it from any computer store then make sure that you put a small amount only half the size of the peanut then put back the heatsink again screw to lock in place make sure not to over lock it

Hello, we have a HP desktop 6736 hard drive - does it have wireless capabilities

Here is a link to the HP Online Support page for your model of PC:

http://h20000.www2.hp.com/bizsupport/TechSupport/Document.jsp?lang=en&cc=us&taskId=120&prodSeriesId=46136&prodTypeId=12454&prodSeriesId=46136&objectID=bph06111

As you can see from the specs listed there, your model did not include a wireless card from the factory.

Adding one yourself though is quite easy.

You can get an actual wireless card that you plug into an empty slot in your motherboard (inside the case of the computer) which requires a small amount of screwdriver work.

Or you can buy a Wireless USB Adapter which is a small device the size of your thumb which plugs into any USB port on your computer. These are very easy to install, just insert the CD which comes with the unit, run the installer program on it and follow its instructions. Then just plug the adapter into any open USB port on your computer when it tells you to. Thats pretty much it.

The USB adapter is good because you can move it easily from one computer to another if you want without having to open up the computer case.

Anyway good luck and please comment back and rate if this was helpful at all.

My keyboard stopped working

What kind of keyboard connector does it have?

If the end of the connector is round with pins (serial connection), just plug the keyboard back in and reboot the computer. With that style of connector, if they get knocked out or come loose while the computer is running, they will not always work again until you reboot.

If the keyboard uses the flat plug (USB) connector, the computer should be able to pick it up again without a reboot when you reconnect it. Also note that if the keyboard is USB and it stops working; if you have any other USB items hooked up as well (IPod, webcam, external drive, etc), check to see if any of those devices are still working either before rebooting your system. Sometimes, another unrelated USB device may crash causing ALL USB devices to fail simultaneously. If this is the case, unplug all USB devices except your keyboard and reboot. If the keyboard works again, reinstall all of your other devices one at a time until you locate the one that crashed all of them (if that was the case).

Hope this helps.

I bent the insert on the drive and it work?

I would first try it in a different computer. If it does not work on the other computer it is unlikely it would work anywhere. It is possible you can take it to a local computer tech service and they can try and read or fix it, but I would think it is unlikely.

If it does work on the other computer I would inspect the USB port for damage on your computer. Or the place where you plug in the flash drive into the computer, if it looks at all damaged, I would contact the manufacture for repair. You can also try other usb devices to check if it still works.

As well if the flash drive does work on other computers, and there is no visible damage to the USB port, or plug in spot, then there may be a driver or software issue on your computer.

I have a compaq presario sr1230nx and when i go to put in a ad card the light next to the slot blinks green and then the card cant be read. then the explorer crashes for about 20 seconds and then i tried...

The memory card reader on your computer may not be able to read memory cards over certain capacities (4 GB).
To use your higher capacity memory card without locking up the computer, do one of the following:
  • If you are using the card in a camera or other device, you can attach the device to the computer using a USB or FireWire cable. When connected, most devices appear in Windows as a Removable Disk and can be used in the same way as the card reader.
  • Purchase a USB memory card reading device that plugs into any open USB port. Make sure the USB device is capable of reading SDHC. These devices are fairly inexpensive and can be used in any computer that has a USB port.
If the card reader stops working after using Safely Remove Hardware, reset the cable connections and memory card firmware.

Memory card appears in My Computer but errors occur when writing or reading
If you are having problems reading and writing data to memory cards, use the following troubleshooting tips:
  1. Try a different memory card of the same type in the same slot. If the different memory card works, the card reader is good and the original memory card should be replaced.
  2. Some cards have a read/write security switch on the card. Make sure that switch is set to Write Enabled before attempting to write data to it.
  3. Make sure that the amount of data you attempted to store has not exceeded the capacity of the card.
  4. Inspect the ends of the memory cards for dirt or material closing a hole or spoiling a metal contact. Clean the contacts with a lint-free cloth and small amounts of isopropyl alcohol. Replace the memory card if necessary.
  5. Make sure the memory card is one of the supported types: CompactFlash (1, 2, and Microdrive), Memory Stick, MultiMedia, Secure Digital, or SmartMedia memory cards.
  6. Make sure the memory card is fully inserted into the slot.
Remove the memory card when the light is not flashing and shine a light into the empty slot. Are any small pins inside bent? Replace the memory card reader or have the computer serviced if a pin is touching another pin. Straighten slightly bent pins while the computer is off using the tip of a mechanical pencil.
  7. If errors persist replace the memory card.

Flash drive got bent while plug into the usb ****

try plugging the flash drive into another pc and see if it works.. or if the usb hub is the problem try another flash drive or usb component on the same plug and see if your computer detects it.

your question was not very clear.. but if your concern is about the flash drive been broken there's probably not much you can do if you're the one to blame for the accident. flash drives are solid state memory that can't be removed for the case and put into another case without risking damaging the chips inside and the data with it... but if you need to try make sure you protect the unit from electrostratic discharge so get another unit just like your's that is not bent, try to open the broken one and see if your memory stick inside the flash drive is still intact and just replace the casing if possible (i never done it myself but I guess it's worth to try if you really need that data)

Computer wont turn on

"Then I came across the recommendation to check the USB ports for damage. Saw some of the pins bent inside the port. Once I fixed them, the computer powered back on as normal! Small fix for big problem. Cheers - Parveen"

My wife's Dell E510 also suffered from the orange blinking light on front, and would not power up this morning. I had just purchased a new power supply for another computer and swapped it with the Dell's. To no avail... Put the Dell back together and still no luck with a start. So I came across your site and remembered that recently the 6y'o had jammed a USB port in the front of the Dell and after bending that USB port back into shape every thing works again!

Who would have thought that a free fix would be so easy!

Thanks!!!
