Question about Hitachi VT-RM391A Remote Control
My remote has worked fine with my Hitachi CT7970B/K TV, but suddenly last week the buttons on the control stopped working except for volume. This means I have to turn the TV on and off manually and manually press the control under the screen to go up a channel. For example, to go from NBC to Turner Classic Movies means pressing that control 82 times to get from 4 to 86!
I've called Hitachi and they don't know what's happened. I even got another remote, but it was the same pattern -- only the volume remote toggle elicits a response.
We suspect we pressed a "wrong" button or did something wrong that incapacitated the remote keypad and channel up-down toggle. Can you help?
Your concern to my understanding is the TV unit will not respond to the original remote nor to a replacement remote except for volume up/down. Two possible causes:
1. defective IR (infrared) preamplifier circuitry internal to the unit;
2. corrupt EEPROM (possibly due to trial/use of a universal remote or was just zapped).
This of course would require a fair familiarity of electronic components/circuitry and safety procedures, use of a DVM and a soldering iron. It would be to your added advantage access to a service manual or at the very least a schematic diagram with voltage readings. Should you be uncomfortable performing a DIY (do-it-yourself), perhaps your best bet would then be to seek the services of a qualified professional.
Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.
Good luck and kind regards.
Thank you for using FixYa.

If there is a tv button on the remote, try pressing that..
Chances are its damaged and you might need to order a new one from Hitachi or possibly use a universal.. With remotes there really isnt much you can do when they stop functioning.
