When I turn on the TV in the morning, it will turn itself right back off, then turn itself back on, and on and on for a while before it warms up enough to stay on. I have found that if I switch between the inputs while it is warming up, it wont shut off, but I have to keep switching inputs until it has warmed up enough to stay on. I have a feeling it is something with the picturetube because while I switch inputs and it comes through the television input, the picture is wavy on the sides and has ghost images as well. I would rather get this fixed then tossing it so any insight would help, thanks!

Re: Tv turns on and off by itself
Picture tubes rarely go bad. You have a bad connection or something on the circuit board that is breaking down due to the temperature change . Probably an easy fix. Not something an unqualified person can do though. Your local shop should fix this for about $60-100.

Try unplugging the TV for about 10 minutes and then tunung it on again. Try a factory
To reset the TV to factory settings
1 Turn the TV on.
2 Hold down on the remote control.
3 Press and release the POWER button on the TV front panel. The TV will turn itself off,
then back on.
4 Release .
I'm assuming step 2 means hold down the power button.
IFyou feel confident and can locate switch mode power supply with back removed.
Try warming switchmode power supply before turning TV on.
If TV turns on normaly then there are some small capcitors that are a common cause of this fault.
Otherwise look for DRY or CRACKED solder jointson PCB
BUT DON'T do any of the above if your are not confident send it to a TV repaiman.
My tv will not turn on. We had been away for a week and no power interuption at home. We have unpluged the tv for short and long periods of time . We we attempt to turn the power on it cuts off by itself.
The set is going into shutdown, there are a few reasons why the circuit is being activated, excessive high voltage, excessive volts supply(poor regulation)no screen voltage or a secondary supply is missing,if you are familiar with tv service you have a few places to check, you will need a volt meter and a soldering iron and the squematic diagram to locate the different circuits mentioned,if you are not too familiar seek the assistance of a servicer.Let Us know if you need more information.
