Question about Onkyo Home Theater Systems

1 Answer

Help!! I just got the onkyo TX-SR606 AV Receiver. Hooked up all the components and everything is working great EXCEPT I cannot get a video image on my JVC television set. I have a video cord running from the "monitor out" jack at the back of the Receiver to the Video Input jack in the tv set. But all I get is a blue screen. I can hear the audio from all the input devices on my speakers, including the cable, DVD, tuner, computer etc. Anybody know why I cannot get an image? Is there something I need to set on the Receiver that I am unaware of? Rick

Do you have your other components wired to the Onkyo. The monitor output isn't the best way to go. If your TV has component inputs or an HDMI you should run one of those instead, running a composite video cable will only get you analog at best.

If you are content with running analog you may need to go into the menu on your tv and select the type of video input you are using. The same goes for your receiver, switch the output to analog out.

How do I get onky to repair my receiver

Check in this forum under recall.

For some period of time Onyko was replacing at no cost a chip that was failing.

If you are able to get audio using the direct input mode it is also possible that the SMD (Surface Mount Device) capacitors are failing because of a characteristic called ESR. (Equivalent Series Resistance) is a known problem for many capacitors used in the DSP(Digital Signal Processing) board of stereo receivers. They are difficult to replace and test for this characteristic, but it is repairable,

The Second link describes a repair process. Others have learned to install a radial capacitor replacement procedure.

Hope this helped?

How do you connect a Jamo sub250 to a Onkyo tx-sr343 av receiver

You simply connect a RCA type line cable from the subs line input to the dedicated socket on the back of the Onkyo.
When you run speaker set up it will set the subwoofer up.

Why cant I supply my onkyo surround sound system

You need to assign the HDMI input(s) to the functions they represent, using the Front Panel Tuning/Preset control...

If you connect a video component to an HDMI input, you must assign that HDMI Input to an input selector in Setup.
For example, you could assign the “DVD” setting to “IN1”, and assign the
“CBL/SAT” setting to “IN2”.

Likewise if you use digital audio inputs...

Assigning the Digital Input
If there’s no sound, press the [DIGITAL INPUT] button repeatedly until sound is heard. The digital input is now properly assigned.
If you connect your DVD player to the AV receiver’s COAXIAL 1 DIGITAL IN, and your cable/satellite receiver
to the COAXIAL 2 DIGITAL IN, as shown, it’s not necessary
to assign the digital input.

I just bought a onkyo hts5200 and I can't seem to get the sound to work with my ps3. Is their any secrets I need to know? I have hooked it up according to their diagram for HDMI AV component hookup. I...

If you are using the hdmi hookup, then you will also need to use either a composite or coaxial cable for the sound. Yes I know this "sounds" crazy, but I had the same problem for both the cable and bluray set ups with this receiver. I thought the hdmi would work for both the picture and sound but for some reason the hdmi only works for the picture with this receiver. I bought mine from Crutchfield and without their tech service I would never have guessed this was the problem. (I never would have purchased this receiver if I knew this was the design problem/issue.) Good quality composite cables for the sound works just fine.

No sound with ps3, connected to a 7.1 av receiver & projection tv

Hi...the HT-R800 Home Theater system has the HT-R550 receiver which could only carry Video via HDMI. you would need to connect a separate audio cale(Optical Audio Cable) to be able to get audio out of the PS3 to the receiver. Once you have hooked up an Optical Audio Cable you would need to go in the PS3 setup and putin Bitstream and Optical in the Audio Setup menu.

Hooking up Playstation 2

first, run your playstation 2's video and audio outputs to the inputs of the receiver. Choose whatever source you want, for example, DVD, VCR, or Video 1, 2, or 3.

Then, run the Monitor Out output on the receiver into your Video Input on your television.

Whatever source you hooked your PS2 as (ie DVD, VCR), select that source on the receiver. You should hear sound at this point.

Then select the video input on the TV that you hooked the receiver to. You should see video.

This will allow you to use the receiver as a switcher for both audio and video.

You must use the projectors menu to choose the type of input for video out. Your projector is capable of 720p or 1080i high def, but not through s video. If you want high def you must use the component output from your receiver to input on your projector. I hope this helps.
