That's your fix????? Even if I was as lazy as to suggest the fix was buying something new I'd probably suggest focusing on replacing the relatively inexpensive router rather than a complete platform change???? Thanks for wasting my and everyone else's time with your garbage!

Get rid of your PC and your troubles are gone. Invest in a MAC. The older iBooks and PowerBooks are a great investments and won't put a damper on your budget.

How can i set up my 2wire 1800hg gateway modem without the disc on windows vista

your 2wire 1800HG modem has the cd-less install or Greenlight technology in it. it will automatically startup once you open a browser, (preferably IE. However, if you don't see it, try pushing the reset button at the back of the unit for 30 sec. open IE, then you will see the installation page.

Listen, you do not need that CD! This is already configured. That cd is for other types of troublesome operating systems that just cannot seem to get is DNS settings right such as windows XP. The cd is for XP only you do not need this with vista.

Thanks

Wireless driver can not read my wireless router

If you're having trouble with a router, it most likely has nothing to do with your laptop at all. If there is a problem with your laptop's wireless adapter, you may be able to find updated wireless drivers through the laptop manufacturer.

Please keep in mind that a wireless router and wireless adapter are completely different. The router is external and relays the signal from your modem (the internet) to your connected PCs. The adapter is in your laptop and sends/receives information from wireless routers such as yours.

2wire 1800hg-- HomePNA stopped working

What you can do, is take the HPNA adapter from the back of the computer and plug the phone cable portion of it directly to the 1800hg's phone port. Since your 1800hg only has 1 phone port though it will not surf the internet, but this is a suggestion to try to make sure the inside wiring in your house is not bad. If you do this though your computer should say its connected, if it doesnt then it could be a driver issue or the phone cable in the HPNA adapter (try a new one then). If its the driver then try support.2wire.com for the regular usb drivers.

Vista drivers

if we're working with laptop, make sure that the wireless switch of your laptop is on, i know its a simple troubleshooting step but most of the time this is being ignored. (the wireless switch of laptop turns off automatically to save energy if you are using battery) if we're working with a desktop which has a wireless adapter, make sure that you installed it completely and properly. check the device manager and check if its enabled. if this is done properly, the wireless light on the modem is lit every time you're gonna try to connect wirelessly. if your computer will ask you to enter the wireless passphrase or password, look at the bottom of your modem, it should have a 10-digit code which is enclosed with a bracket. use it as your wireless password.to know the network name, look at the SN on your modem. get the last 3 numbers. you will have 2Wirexxx as your network name.

so there it is, hope this helps.

Loosing wireless connection

It sounds to me like your wi-fi client might be affected by some sort of timeout or overload type kick. Is it just the PC or both the PC and the Xbox?

By "timeout" this could be your "IP Lease" that is too short (look in your ADSL PPP/PPOE configuration)
Otherwise would you be using any P2P software? If so you might want to look in the settings for something called MTU. Set this to something like 1500 then if that doesn't do it reduce it to 1492.

The only other thing I can think of is that your pc might be having authentication problems. Degrade your wi-fi security (go from WPA to WEP) and test to see if that makes any improvements.
