I have just bought anew laptop cant get onto internet it wants me to type in security key i dont know what this is can you help me please?

  • If your are trying to connect via wireless from your laptop to the Netgear router, most likely it's requiring you to input the wireless security key(usually it's WEP or WPA encryption).

  • Access the router's setup page by typing http://www.routerlogin.net or 192.168.1.1 in the address field of your browser(IE or Chrome). On the login use the default username and password(admin, password).

  • After logging in. Look at the main menu on the left, click on Wireless Settings, from there you can check the Wireless Key. If the wireless security is set to WEP, use the available Key code but If it's WPA, what you need is the passphrase.

Type the Key or Passphrase on your wireless laptop and it should connect to the router.

Cant get my netgear to work at all. tried re setting it and it stil wont work

to configure the netgear router. . . . 1, first make sure that your laptop is connected directly to the netgear router via ethernet cable. 2. after securing step 1, on your computer, open browser, ( internet explorer or firefox ) 3. go to the address bar, the one with the http:\\ and erase everything inside it. 4. type in there, 192.168.1.1 or www.routerlogin.net. 5. username is " admin " password is " password " 6. you would see netgear set up wizard. 7. for wireless configuration, click wireless settings on the left side of the set up wizard. 8. you can edit network name, and get your network security key under security options. make sure to choose WPA PSK TKIP. so that you can have a personalize network key and make sure its 8 characters long. 9. the network security key is the " passphrase " then click apply. then your all set for wireless connectivity.

Just hooked up the router to my pc and put in the install disc that came with it, the Belkin program won't open on my computer and the laptop I'm using shows it as an available wireless connection put...

Hi,

Welcome to Fixya. If you want to connect to the Belkin Router Wirelessly and it is asking you for a Security Key, all you need to do is to access the router settings page and look for the Network Key or Passphrase.

To access the router page you need a working computer that is connected to the router. To access the router page just open a browser then type 192.168.2.1, the Default password is blank

Click on Security under Wireless and look for the Security Key or Network Key (Passphrase)

Thanks for using Fixya.

My Wii will not connect to my router. I have tried all the routerlogin.net and .com solution attempts. Also the 192.168.1.1 stuff. No luck. Netgear tells me I have to use their support tech at $69.995....

Hi,

Welcome to Fixya. If you want to connect you Wii to the internet wirelessly first we need to know the settings of your router. Listed below are the steps on how to access your router. You need a working computer connected to the router to access it follwed by the steps on how to connect our Wii.

How to access the Router:

To access the router page you need a working computer that is connected to the router. To access your router you need to use a computer that is connected to it. Open a Browser then type 192.168.0.1 or http://routerlogin.net. The Default username is admin and the password is password. Password is case sensitive.

Go to the Wireless Tab select Wireless Security under the Security Mode you will see there Network Key (Wep/Wpa Key) or Passphrase. The Network Key serves as a password or security code on your network to make it secure. Network Key is case sensitive.

Now that we have the information needed lets connect your Wii to the internet.

1. Select Wii Settings
2. Then Internet Connection Settings
3. Search for an AP or SSID
4. Input Security Key or Network Key
5. Test the Connection.
Other Suggestion

Did this connection used to work but has suddenly stopped? "Power cycle" your router by unplugging it from the power outlet. Wait a few minutes, and plug the modem back in. Wait a couple of minutes for the modem to initialize, then plug in the router. Try to connect the Wii and test for proper response.

The Wii may have detected and set itself to the wrong security type during the initial connection set up. Try creating a new connection file and going through the connection process again but be sure that when the Wii asks for a security code, the type shown on screen (WEP or WPA) is what your router is set to. If it is different

Change your router's channel setting to 1 or 11. By default, most routers broadcast on channel 6, which overlaps with other channels and may be weaker

How to change my password... i forgot my password now i cant share my connection good thing my iphone remmemvers the router

I assume you previously enabled security on your router, so you are now trying to retrieve the security key so that other computers can make connections via that router.

The security key should be in the computer which configured the router, as well as any computer which made a wireless connection to the router. It may be available in the web-based configuration page for the router (if you are able to access that).

Alternative, you should be able to retrieve the security key, by installing some additional (free) software on any computer that has connected
to the router.

Dont know net work key

ok, goto 192.168.1.1.

acoording to the manual of a simlar router,

you need to set the SSID to name the network

then create a Pre-Shared Key, now insert the cd on the machine you wish to connect to this network , if you have no CD give me the model number of the Wireless stick then hopefully we can get a driver, if you insert the hardware it may not pick a driver or it may pick a driver that will not work correctly so disconnect the wireless stick, install the driver then when prompted insert the stick , the driver will be on the CD otherwise give me the model number or goto google and search on that model

Cant get my PSP to connect to the net

for troubleshooting purposes:

remove the router's wireless security, save the settings & reboot the router.

try it again with the PSP, if it works, turn the security ON (choose the lowest type cause PSP can't understand complicated security type).

Cant Aquire IP Address Wirelessly

try this... connect the laptop directly to the router using a cable. get into the router interface and disable the wep security. Once it is disabled try connecting the laptop. your computer will ask you that network is not secured and ask if you want to connect anyway. just connect your laptop without the WEP key, if it connects, just go ahead and enable the security again. hope this helps.
