I went to open my washer and the metal ring (with spring) was dislodged from the rubber seal to tub washer . The rubber tub seal is not ripped. I can not get the metal ring back around the tub opening and cannot find a repair diagram that shows me how it is to be positioned. Help!

If you are talking about the inner spring that holds the door bellow to the tub, it's going to require two hands to get the spring to go back in the groove. You will need to carefully remove the bellow from the front opening of the door, first. On the 417 models, such as yours, the bellow is usually glued in place aorund the door frame and held in place by a spring to the tub. Use a putty knife to carefully peel the rubber form the washer facing. Once completed, you can glue it back in place with some appliance adhesive. To get the spring back in the groove on the tub facing, you will need to start at the top and have someone hold it on place as you work your way around the the tub. It's a real bear to get back in at times. Let me know if this helps you. Please post back if you have questions.
if your metal ring (clamp) came off it is most likely due to you shocks or the spring at the top are worn out and need to be replaced. this will happen more often if the cycles are off balance or the washer is over loaded
Spring should be a the 6 o'clock . you may need someones help have some hold the wire on at 15 and 45 ... when you pull the spring apart and slided it under the bellows. be careful as the spring can fly off. good luck and keep trying...
Start with the spring at the bottom, work the retainer around until the seal starts to pull away from the washer. Now grip the loop that the spring attaches to on the side that isn't in place and open the retainer. Push the retainer in place and release the spring.
The rubber seal fits over the lip around the door opening. Carefully seat the rubber seal all the way around the door opening first. Then, place the wire hoop in the crease where the rubber seal fits over the lip. Insert the hoop with the spring pointing at the bottom. Starting at the top and work your way around the door opening to the 4 and 8 o'clock positions. While holding the hoop in place, stretch the spring apart enough to allow the rest of the hoop to snap into the crease at the bottom of the door opening. You may need a second pair of hands to help you with this. Good luck and I hope this helps you.
