Thanks for your suggestion! Does this mean that the belt itself probably is NOT the problem? Also, my husband is very handy. Are these replacements that he should be able to make?

  • tucke987 Jul 16, 2008

Thanks Mike! We will take your advice and I will let you know how this project turns out. I probably should mention.....the dryer IS 7 years old......but I would love to repair rather than replace.

Thanks so much. We ordered the parts and my husband installed them in less than an hour. You saved us losts of worry and money.

The squealing is coming from either the drum support rollers or the belt tensioner roller. Dryer works good. But - 3aef099.jpg

you can check the belt while your in there but it usually does not make any noise, it just breaks. yes if he can take out the drum he can replace these parts.
let me know if you need help

Squealing dryer

Sounds like the drum bearings are going bad, or at the very least need lubrication. thats what your problem is.

Squealing noise on start up drying still works

This dryer needs to be taken apart to lubricate any and all moving parts. Idler pulley and rollers, if they are worn out in any way, replace them.
Also, consider a new belt.

Hoover Maxi 6 TC50 Tumble Dryer making squealing noise

Have you fixed this problem? I also have a Hoover condenser dryer, only a few months old, and has started to make a squeal/whistle. I'm thinking it might be the front fan needing some WD40, OR too much water vapour around the belt that moves the drum causing the sounds.

If it's the fan, lubricating the shaft and its components should fix the problem, if a wet fan then I'd think maybe fully cleaning the condenser filter, reservoir ect will fix the problem.

The problem seems to go away though "mostly" 15 or so minutes after you start the dryer, so that makes me think ones it gets warm something is expanding to allow more "give" so maybe the belt.

Squealing dryer

Most dryers have a vented access panel on the back on the bottom that is held in place by a couple of screws so you can get to the motor & pully assy. Check to see if the grease has dried up on either the iddler pulley or drive pulley. If needed, push down on the iddler to release pressure on the belt and give the pulleys a spin. If they seem fine then it will be the belt or possibly an overloading problem.

Load squeal

if you can take your dryer apart, you'll have to take the drum out and lubricate the bearing that is located in the center under the drum while there check wellness of your heat element if located there. Anyway use high temp grease on this bearing looks more like a ball

Kenmore 400 dryer squealing noise

A little lubricant on the pulleys near the belts will go along way. Its vereasy to access these parts front the back of the machine with a 1/4 hex head screwdriver.

the noise is coming from the drum axle bushing that allows the drum to spin on it's axle. Gain access to the rear of machine and apply some high temperature grease that is found in automotive parts stores to the bushing. run it while observing spinning drum at rear for any possible other problem where squeal can be found such as drum slides.
