Resetting the camera is very easy. First open the battery cover, there is a hole inbetween the sd card slot and the battery release switch. use something that will fit in that hole and press down on it until you feel a click. Hold it for about 3 seconds.

Hope this helps,
Eric

Here are some troubleshooting steps that you can try that may (or may not) correct your problem. They only seem to work for less than 40% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty (or repair cost approaches that of the camera), they're worth that try. Some of the later steps do involve some risk to the camera, so carefully weigh your options before deciding to conduct them:

The lens will not go back in. a error comes up and says lens malfunction, restart camera. Don't know how to restart it.

Hello

Thank you for using FIXYA!!!

This is a suggestion. If you do not feel comfortable trying it, you will need to take the unit to your nearest service centre. Feel free to let me know if you need any assistance.

The problem might be that the lens has become stuck in the barrel. There are some DIY solutions you could try, but the probability is that you will have to get it fixed by a professional.

Use these at own risk as it may further damage the camera.

Firstly , try connecting your ac adapter or usb cable.

Try holding the shutter button while switching on the camera.

Look at the lens , and if some of the lens 'circles' is misaligned or not concentric then try wiggling it (while holding camera lens down).

Try gently pushing or pulling the lens when it extends but this is risky as it may cause the lens barrel to slip out of its guidance system.

Another way to do this is to place the camera lens down on a hard surface and then power it up. Be sure to use a soft cloth or something similar as to not scratch your lens or casing. Let the lens push the camera up and down a few times and sometimes the little resistance provided by the camera is enough to get things going again.

Try hitting your camera near the lens on the body with the soft tissue on the palm of your hand.

Other than that , I would take the camera to a repair centre for a evaluation to see if it would cost more to repair than to replace the camera.

If it is still under warranty I would suggest you take it in before trying any of these steps and remove any off-brand batteries or accessories as some stores are really fussy about warranty repairs on camera's with non-brand accessories.

You can also have a look at THIS link.

Hope the advise is useful. please do not hesitate to let me know if you need any further assistance. Also, please be so kind to let me know if you found this helpful.

Regards
Andrea

Hello! I have a canon powershot S1300 IS and when I go to turn my camera on, it says Lens Error Will Shut Down automatically. restart camera. I don't know what to do...

Lens errors are fairly common. Usually it's sand or grit interfering with the lens extension mechanism. Or the camera's been dropped with the lens extended. Or the camera has been powered on, but the lens had been blocked preventing its extension. Or the battery ran down with the lens extended ... Here are some troubleshooting steps that you can try that may (or may not) correct it. They only seem to work for less than 40% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty (or repair cost approaches that of the camera), they're worth that try. Sounds like you're experiencing a lens error. The camera is having difficulty extending the lens. Unfortunately, many cameras that fall prey to lens error problems can only be corrected by professional repair. But, here are some last resort troubleshooting steps that you can try that may correct it. They only seem to work for less than 40% of the lens errors, but if the camera is out of warranty (or repair cost approaches that of the camera), they're worth that try.

Hi, if i make on my camera. I get the message " lens error restart camera " What should i do? Thanks, Shahram.

Hi,

Welcome to Fixya, Getting message of "Lens error" occur if you hold the lens while it is in motion or when using it in a location with excessive dust or sand in the air. I have here some troubleshooting for you to fix this kind of error.

1. You have to check first, if the battery slot and memory slot is not lifted or open while camera is turn on or while recording.
2. Try to clean the lens with soft and dry cloth.
2. You also need to be careful not to block the camera lens when turning on. Lens will have issues while retracting if your hands or even small thing that will block the lens to retrack while in motion of turning on.

I also check a website for those camera that was already out of warranty and looking forward to fix their camera without spending. If you want you can try to check this link. However according to this link, this is not a 100% sure for your camera to be fixed. This troubleshooting steps is just an option if you don't want to spend too much for fixing your camera.

I highly suggest that If this error continues to appear, contact your camera's service center as there may be a problem with the lens where the are the only one who can open the camera and fix it. Don't take a risk in opening your camera because this might end up for much more damaged on your camera.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

Thank you for using Fixya,

How to fix digital camera canon ixus 70 'lens error restart camera'?

Would not recommend opening the camera as the chances are much greater for you causing greater damage. BUT would instead recommend that you try the seven sequential repair step outlined for a lens error in the below listed Related Link "Fixing a Lens Error on a Digital Camera". None of the steps outlined in this link involve opening the camera. and reportedly you should have close to a 50% chance of success with these techniques.

If you cannot repair the lens yourself with the first related link, then consider trying the two 'Digital camera repair" links below for two online digital camera repair businesses.

How do I view and/or download the pictures taken with my digital camera my computer?

Once you have properly connected your camera to your computer (see FAQ #2 listed above), your computer will see your camera (connected and powered on) as a disk drive - most likely listed as "removable disk." Now that you know where to look to find the images, they can be viewed and/or downloaded in a variety of programs. Please visit our Learning Studio for specific step-by-step instructions (complete with examples and visuals) for further assistance in viewing/downloading images.
