Question about Pentax Optio M20 Digital Camera

1 Answer

Downloading photos in a PC

I bought a USB lead for a Pentax M20 as I lost everything that came with the camera originally. The PC does not pick up the camera at all, will not even detect it in add hardware. Fairly sure I am running XP - surely it should plug and play?
Please please help! Can you also send any suggestions to fergusworthy@gmail.com
Really appreciate it any help!

You probably need software to see the camera. Many cameras are not fully plug and play and need drivers and software to make the download from the camera to work.

Consider a usb card reader/writer. It will save a lot of troubles with cables and camera.

What do I need to attach camera to computer to upload photos from Pentax M20 Optio digital onto computer?

A card reader is your best choice.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive. Or you can use any photo cataloging program.

I formatted by mistake the card attached

With the help of technology, yes. There is still a way for you to recover it. Download this software, install to your computer and then follow the instructions on how to recover your files.

By the way, until you have not recovered the files, please make sure that you will not use the card and store more photos on it. This is to help you ensure that you would still get the photos you need on the formatted card.

Here is one of the many softwares you can use for data recovery:
