Question about Dell 1600n All-In-One Laser Printer

1 Answer

Paper jam, Is this the fuser?

I have my dell 1600n laser printer for three and half years. I have the paper jam started a few months ago. Most of the time when I open the door (toner cartridge) it starts to print again. I called the Dell tech support, they told me I have to replace the fuser with a new one. Is there anyone who has the same problem? How can I replace the fuser? If this is expenseive then I have to think about buying a new one.

I have had the same problem. Changing the fuser is easy (about $85, and must be ordered through Dell) remove the 4 screws from the back, and you'll see the fuser. 2 screws, and 2 wires, and it slides right out.

If the print rubs off the page, this means the toner is not being fused to the page. Fused......this is done by the fuser. This would have nothing to do with light print.

The dell (1600n and 1815n /1815dn) printer drivers has a toner saver mode, which can contribute to light print.

To turn Toner Save Mode off, (Windows XP) perform the following steps:
  1. Click the Start button, click Settings, and then click Printer and Faxes.
The Printers and Faxes window appears.
  2. Right-click Dell Laser MFP 1600n, 1815dn, and left-click Printing Preferences.
The Dell Laser MFP 1600n, 1815dn Printing Preferences window appears.
  3. Click the Advanced button.
The Dell Laser MFP 1600n, 1815dn Advanced Options window appears.
  4. Click to highlight Toner Save.
  5. Click the drop-down list and change it to Off and click OK.
  6. Click OK.
One thing that you mentioned in your post "it takes the printer forever to warm up". The fuser does have to reach operational temperature in order for it to fuse the toner to the page. So it is possible that you are having fuser problems, because of the time it is taking for it to warm up. Another thing that can contribute to the warm up time is not plugging the laser printer directly into a wall outlet. This would be true for any laser printer, not just a Dell laser printer. The low voltage power supply is what works the fuser, along with sensors and other motors in the printer.

Replacing the fuser and or the low voltage power supply in this model of printer is not an easy task. If using a Dell branded toner cartridge and checking the toner saver mode does not fix the issue. Then you would be looking at more expense then the machine would possibly be worth.

Paper jam 2 - checked every area - cut equipment off and back on - still paper jam 2 - need service person asap.

there are 4 or 5 sensors through paper road:
1)paper input sensor near input roller
2)margin sensor between input roller and cartridge unit
3)transfer bell sensor between cartridge and fuser unit
4)fusing sensor before fusing
5)out put tray sensor
check all sensors if you can find out and check any paper jam there and check sensor stander at normal position, also check each sensor click ok(the micro switch ok) .
there is any sensor out of work should be showing paper jam.

Document Jam in Dell 1600n

The Automatic Document Feed (ADF) has a white rubber pad that wears out. You can find it by opening the ADF cover and removing the roller bar. Under that is the white rubber pad. Pinch the sides together and the assembley comes out. Contact Dell for the replacement. You may also refer to the Dell 1600n Owners Manual for instructions.

Dell 1600N Multifunction printer problem.

Fuser issues - if problem is reoccuring then you are looking at more expense, are all vents free of obstructions (folders leaning on machine sides/rear) is machine being flogged, is power supply consistent, maybe even fuser bought was faulty, many options, try doing a warranty claim on fuser or replace again, even better get another printer, welcome to our throw away world!

Paper jams

It sounds like you'll need new feed rollers.  I could find some part #s for you if you felt confident replacing them yourself.
