when i pushed my start button, It broke in three pieces. I was wondering if it possible to buy a new one

My power button sticks and stays in - so it turns itself off right away. I always have to try to pry it back out. When I try to turn it on, I can BARELY touch the button or it will stick. I am going to try your solution and see if it works. I have a HP a206 PC Desktop.

Hello,

Here is a manual that explains how to remove the front bezel. Please follow only steps 1 - 8 and 14 - 18. The rest of the steps are not necessary for this issue.

http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c00225826.pdf

After you have the front bezel disconnected, I would suggest checking the button on the bezel for debris that may be blocking it from making good connection (ie. dust or fuzz) which can be cleaned by a vacuum cleaner hose or compressed air can.

This may also be a good time to test and see if the actual button on the case works correctly with the front bezel removed. You will need to follow steps 17 - 18 to reconnect the machine to power. You should see a small metal button in the lower center of the case that should be the power button. It may be somewhat recessed so you may need to press it with a pencil or something. If you have trouble finding this, you can lean the bezel against the chassis and you should be able to locate it by matching where the power button is on the bezel to the chassis.

If the machine starts ok, you will need to let the machine start completely and then do a normal shutdown using the Start button and choosing Shut down or turn off depending on your operating system. After you have verified that everything is OK with that, follow steps 1 - 2 to disconnect from power again.

Now you should be able to follow steps 14-18 to put the side and front back on and connect to power.

Thanks

Hp a305w will not turn on.

Remove the side-panel.
Press the POWER button.
Does the fan inside the power-supply start to spin?
Does the fan on top of the CPU start to spin?
Is there any lamp on the motherboard that lights up?
Is there any noise (from disk-drive, floppy-drive, CD-drive) ?

If not, take your computer to a computer store, and get them to replace the power-supply. Hint: the smaller the computer-store, the more-likely that they will install for FREE, if you BUY from them.

Have an hp a305w pavillion powers up but nothing on the screen, tried f10 an nothing happened. Its as if the monitor isn't receiving a signal.

Disconnect all cables, remove all cards and memory. Reinstall one stick of ram, power cord, video cable and keyboard. If that works reinstall other components one at a time. I found a hp a1600n at the dump. Brought it home, had same problem, tried this. A memory stick was loose. Resetting it fixed it. I am typing on it now. You might try the memory first. A chip could have gone bad.Are you using the board video or a video card?

That should support the two 512s you installed. Try each stick one at a time to verify you don't have a bad stick.

To reset the CMOS first unplug the power cord from the back of the computer. Now open up the left side-panel of your computer (the power button is what I consider to be the front of the computer). Now touch the metal chassis or something metal to discharge any static electricity. Afterward take a look at your motherboard (the main board sitting inside the computer). Look for a battery similar to the one shown in this picture. Once you find it, take it out (might take a little force). Leave it out for about 24 hours. Afterward stick it back in (remember, discharge static electricity before sticking your hands in the case) the motherboard and close the case by re-attaching the side-panel. Now plug the power back in and try to boot the computer.

Let me know how it turns out or if I need to explain further on any one point.

Hp pavilion a305w isnt working

sounds like it is in standby mode..........try pressing and holding the power button until it turns off fully. then remove the power cable to reset the power supply, wait for 5 mins then plug in and try again,

it is also possible that you have a fault , possibly a failed power supply, it might be best to investigate that if the power reset doesn't work
