I don't know the model but a great many modern monocoque body designs derive weight-saving, strength and rigidity from all-welded panels including the wing, fender, mudguard.
Some are still bolted and some are fixed with a combination of bolts and welds.
Today there are a number of specialised drill bits that will neatly remove spot welds so the panel can be reused or special chisels designed to cut spot welds if the panel is not to be reused.
dunno about a Lucerne but every car i've worked on;no, the side intrusion beam is spot welded to the inner door frame not to the outer skin & you can drill out the spot welds to remove said beam,although it's a bit of a job!
If these are copper, the "spot welds" will be soldered connections.
Get a soldering gun, solder, soldering paste, and some copper wire. Practice joining bits of copper until you can do it quikly and without overheating the adjacent area. Then clean up the broken contacts and apply your new skill! Ta Da!!!!
you have drill out all the sport welds if you start on a front clip from a wreck find all the spot welds, grind all the welds without cutting into the front you need, making note where the welds are, using a center punch mark the center of welds on your front, using a drill the same size as the spot weld, drill them all out, there may be 100+ of them carefully measuring where it has to go back to, draw a diagram, measure again, then check your measurements again. remove the panel, set new frame in place, weld in the spots where you drilled measure again. Or take it to a panel beater because you havn't even looked at paint yet
Most are spot welded into place. The only way to do it is to cut them out, using a grinder to remove the spot welds as best as possible then removing the hinge with a dead blow hammer, or use a metal chisel to help dislodge it the rest of the way
Buy a quarter panel from a junk yard that you want to replace tell the junk yard where you need it cut and tell them all of it that you need then using a pair of nibblers cut out the area that you want to replace. To do this use a measuring tape to measure the area to cut out. Next get some 3/4 masking tape and run the tape along the lines that you want to cut. test cut a piece of metal to see how much the nibbler cuts out and how jagged it leaves the cut and figure this into what you need to cut from the piece from the junk yard. once it is taped off remove bumper, and any wires that might run threw the holes on the panel also remove fuel tank hose if it's in the panel you are replacing. Once its cut remeasure the 1/4 panel and grind any spots that might be to long then match the parts together. ON THE INSIDE OF THE PANNEL WHERE YOU CAN'T SEE IT WELD SOME TABS (Spot Weld) 3 or 4 tabs that will help you line up the two pieces together then slide it in place get one end lined up and a space of the wire you will use to weld it together once it is all lined up pull tape off and use a grinder or wire wheel to remove paint away from the area to be welded by 1 inch. Next start welding it together be careful not to weld one side more than another or yo will get warp age, also don;t let it get to hot. take your time welding it together be sure to get a solid weld be sure all holes that have to be lined up line up. after welding it together then grind it flat and used bondo to fill in and smooth out the welded edge prep with 2 part epoxy primer spray the bare metal and blend into the paint, this will show you if you have any areas to work on. THIS IS NOT A EASY JOB BUT CAN BE DONE. I have cut two cars in half and have welded then together and they were stronger than when they were new. but this requires knowledge of windshield repair and wheel alignment. good luck and if you need more help let me know so I can help you.
use super glue to glue in place in spots cut away seal near the weld seams, then make sure the door closes ok then get 5 minute epoxy and glue the seal on where it comes off, it's a permanent fix for a old machine but it will work. so go ahead and replace the seal.
it is one of two things. (1) the spot timer my need to be cleaned or re-placed.(2) ckeck and clean the ground clamp and ground wire hook-up. you can clean the the timer by blowing it out with compressed air or nitrogen
