When I try to record a show. There is no picture on the disc when I'm done. Its just a white noise screen. I finalize the disc too. there is no prompt to tell me to format the disc.

If the disc playes back then the problem is not with the DVD unit. In order to record white noise, the channel selected for record is probably not tuned in. Try recording the same channel on to video tape and see what results you get.

Good one!

Sounds like you are doing everything right. Only things I can think of are:

- Make sure the disc is a blank one.
- Try a different disc.
- Make sure the tape you are trying to dub is not encoded with Macrovision copyguarding. If it is a home-made recording then you are OK, but a factory recording on a store bought tape may cause some difficulties.

If you are still having troubles try a complete 15 minute reset by unplugging from the power source.

Good luck!

I am recording fron VHS to DVD. When I am finished and push the stop button, How can I tell how much space is on the DVD to record something else and how do I finish the dik so it can't be recordered over

JVC DVD Recorder – Finalizing and disc space
First, you will need to know if the program was recorded in XP mode, SP mode, LP mode, or EP mode. To find out how much room there is left, put the dvd in the tray and press the Disc Menu/List button on the JVC remote. This will display the title and how long it is - write that number down. It will also say either "XP,SP, LP, or EP" - write down that mode. In XP mode, a DVD will hold 1 hr and 20 mins worth of prgramming - MAXIMUM. SP mode = 2 hours. LP mode = 4 hours. EP = 6 hours. So, if your program is one hour, and you recorded in LP mode, you have 4 - 1 = 3 hours of space left for recording on that disc.

If you finalize a disc, you will no longer be able to add more programs to that disc, unless the disc is a + or - RW disc. Also note that finalization requires some disc space, so if you recorded a program that is exactly 1hr and 20 mins long, and you recorded it in XP mode, then the disc will probably not finalize correctly.

That being said, the finalization directions are on p. 23 of your manaul: Title --> Finalize --> => --> find finalize --> Enter --> OK --> Enter

Now it will play on other players.

Disk recording and playback stopped working

Generally this means that there is either an internal issue going on, or that the laser has become dirty or has defected. Try bying a simple DVD cleaner disk and running that through a few times. If that does not work the product may be defective -- in which case I hope that you still have a warranty -- and if you do return the product promptly for a new one.

Recording Length Not As Indicated

Hi. Yeah, RCA soutions are worthless. What happens is that the hard disk loses recording time while in use. Like a hard disk losing clusters on a computer and making them unusable. To get that recording time back, you will need to reset the unit. To do this, go to the main menu, press and hold the play and open buttons on the front pannel for about 7 seconds. This will reformat your hard disk. Keep in mind that reformating will erase all data. I have looked up and down for some type of firmware/software update and RCA support told me to disconnect the unit..press the power button 10 times and connect again!!???!?!? How silly. Hope this helps :)
