Question about Denon Audio & Video Receivers

1 Answer

Have a Denon 685 receiver. Purchased a Sony HD tuner (tuner only --$99). Hooked it up to phono input and it worked. After a while protection circuit clicked in. Used integrated tuner in unit. Worked longer bit protection mode kicked in. In general it works for a while and then protection mode kicks in. Didn't have problem until last week when Sony arrived. Speaker wires are connected to wall plate and I did swivel unit several times to see back panel and may have disturbed speaker wires.

didn't do the trick. still clicked into protection mode when no speaker wires were attached, tuner plugged into phono input. cd player works fine but when tuner plugged into cd inputs it goes into protection mode again.

If you disconnect speaker wire from rear and the problem is solved you will have a real problem in speaker wiring-you must fix it first or disconnect it from receiver and put new wires instead of.

I just purchased a Sony flat screen tv and need advice on what wires I need to connect my Denon AVR-3300 to it or to the dish cable box? My remote has these options on the remote to listen in...

Your reciever has three digital optical inputs so, what it comes down to is how many thing do you want to hook up and what input/otput do you have on your TV. Best case scenario would be to hook your cable box directly to your TV Via HDMI out, if you have HD, on your cable box to Sat/cable input on your TV. Next best would be using componenet cables for video and digital optical for audio. Last would be RCA(yellow, white and red, from Cable box to TV input. Then, you would connect your TV to receiver via(best) digital optical, or RCA. You can try to patch the video through the reciever using component or RCA to TV/DBS on receiver then out to TV but. alot of times you will lose the video in the transfer and it uses more cables, thus more margiin for error. You would set your TV menu to cable/sat and your reciever to which ever input you choose.

What can i do to be able to take my denon dra685 out of protection mode??????

I just recently picked up a Denon DRA-685 receiver that was stuck in protection mode. I found a site online that suggested it was due to two bad resistors on the main circuit board. More specifically resistor R-105 and R-106. They are both 1 ohm x 1 watt resistors. I ordered these from a supplier on Amazon for a few dollars, and just snipped the old resistors off, leaving the soldered leads sticking out. I then thinned the new leads and soldered them to the protruding wires, so I didn't have to remove everything. The unit now works like new. I'm happy I spent the time doing this, and grateful to the tech who discovered the common problem with this unit. Hope this can help somebody else. H

How do i hook up an ipod to a denon dra-685?

you can use a 1/8 inch female to stereo RCA adapter and plug the patch cable into one of your inputs like DVD or CD player. The signal to noise ratio on those inputs is pretty good.

Dra-685 the protection came on ,i found 2 speaker wires together, fixed that, but still stays on,thanks

You may have a speaker that is damaged and causing the protection to operate. Try unhooking all the speaker wiring from the receiver, turn the volume to minimum, and see if the protection still comes on. If the receiver is okay, you can start checking the speakers and wires to determine which one(s) may be responsible.

If the unit continues to go into protection even with no speakers connected, the trouble is inside the receiver. No protection circuit is absolutely perfect, so it's possible something failed before the circuit kicked in. Without the proper test equipment and service information, you won't be able to try fixing this yourself. Take the unit to a shop for an estimate.

Thanks for using Fixya! Hope your receiver's back in service soon.

IPOD hook up to receiver

The problem is the phono hookup, which is not a standard line-level input. Phono is only appropriate for a turntable (record player)

Plug the ipod into any other input, and you'll be all set.

If this helps, be sure to hit the "thumbs up" for me!

Denon avr-1907 sound from TV stopped working

Help with hooking PS3 to a Denon Receiver. It worked before, but I had to move everything to a different location and when I hooked it back up the PS3 has sound but no picture. I have it hooked directly to the receiver with and HDMI cable (the receiver is hooked up to our cable box which is directly hooked to the tv via HDMI cable).

ok sounds simple you ran the lines threw the tv instead all lines should be ran threw the sterio

see once you turn tv off this cuts the outputs out so now no sound will happen
your sterio should be equipted to take inputs of tv
you want everything to be inputed threw receiver thats why they call it a receiver the outputs on tv goto inputs on receiver
you need to redo your wireing so that this which i described is correct again

Right channel not working

Hi....you may want to check the speaker fuse, located on the rear of the unit.. sometimes too small wattage speakers get hooked up and the speaker fuse will blow as to not hurt the speakers.
Hope this helps.

Denon DRA 685

Could it be that the speakers load is too much for the amp to handle? What are the ohm ratings? It should handle a low load but I am just wondering? How effcient are they?

Receiver shut down only when using phono preamp

You may want to try putting an attenuater in the line with the RCA's to cut the input signal back just a little bit. So you are not driving the amp so hard with your preamp.
