HP System Software Manager

The HP Remote Support Software Manager is an application installed on HP desktops and laptops, that enables Remote Assistance on the computer for HP personnel access. This Remote Support client allows a technical support representative from HP to see and control your computer to assist you with making changes on the machine. The HP Remote Support Software Manager may be safely uninstalled from the computer. Uninstalling this application will not affect any other functions and features. However, you should create a Restore Point prior to uninstalling any software just in case problems arise with the changes. Create Restore Point in System Restore Click the Windows "Start" button and then right-click on the "Computer" entry. Click "Properties" from the context menu. Click the "System Protection" link in the left navigation pane. Click the tab labeled "System Protection" and then click the "Create" button. The Create button label indicates that this action will create a System Restore Point now. Type a description for the manually created Restore Point and click "Create." The System Restore Point is manually created. Uninstall HP Remote Support Software Manager Click the Windows "Start" button and select "Control Panel." Click the "Programs" link in the Control Panel. Click "Programs and Features." The list of installed programs will appear. Locate the HP Remote Support Software Manager in the list and click the entry. Click the "Uninstall" button on the top navigation bar. Type the "Administrator" password, if prompted, and click "Continue." The program is uninstalled from the computer and the entry disappears from the Programs list.

Software compatibility issues with Windows Vista

ISSUE- Software compatibility issues with Windows Vista
SYMPTOMS-
Fortunately, many applications still work fine under Windows Vista. However, there are some applications which are incompatible with Windows Vista because they are not able to handle the changes in Windows Vista compared to Windows XP. User Account Control is one of those changes to offer a better secured operating system. Sometimes, this problem is solved by (temporarily) disabling User Account Control (which can be done at the item User Accounts in the Control Panel). But for security reasons, deactivating UAC is not advised!
RESOLUTION/ WORKAROUND-
Run as administrator:
Does an application not function properly or does it show an error message every time it is used, try to run it with additional administrator rights! Because most compatibility issues are solved by running an application with additional administrator rights. By default, an application is not started with those additional rights, but this can be done manually by right clicking (the shortcut to) the application and to choose for Run as administrator. Those administrator rights can also be added by default by right clicking the shortcut to the application and to select Properties, tab Shortcut, button Advanced and to activate the option Run as administrator.
Limited permissions:
The issues concerning the limited permissions is related to the problem with the administrator rights. Without the permission to modify files in a certain location, an application is not able to save a file in this folder (as example, it is not possible to change or add files in the C:\Program Files without the permissions to do it). In most cases this problem can be solved by running an application with additional administrator rights. A better alternative is adding permissions to modify the concerning folder. This is done by right clicking the folder and to chose for Properties, tab Security, button Edit (or the button Advanced) and to activate the option Full control for the concerning user account.
Virtual Store: virtualization of files
In Windows Vista, many folders are secured, which makes it impossible for an application to make changes to the files in the folders. For example, the folder C:\Program Files is secured: only an application with additional administrator rights is able to modify the files! However, many older applications continuously try to store files in this folder, which should not be placed there. To solve this issue, Windows Vista uses virtualization of files (which are stored in the Virtual Store). The application is not aware of this virtualization, and thinks the files are stored on the prescribed location. Virtualization is done separately for every user account, the files are stored in C:\Users\loginname\AppData\Local\VirtualStore. Program Files is one of the folders in the Virtual Store, which contains the user specific settings for the applications. All users must change the settings of the virtualized applications separately. This is an advantage as well because the changes won't effect the other users.
DISABLING THE VIRTUALIZATION
Because of the virtualization, files are stored on multiple locations (every user account has it's own virtualization folder), which makes it hard to handle them (the incoming folder of the file sharing software eMule is a good example). If the virtualization is unwanted because the files (and settings) have to be applied to all user accounts? This can be realized by giving all user accounts permissions to fully control all the files in the folder which else will be virtualized. Right click the folder and chose for Properties, tab Security, select Users and set the permissions to Full Control. If this procedure is to much work, the application can be run as administrator as well. This is done automatically by right clicking the shortcut and to chose for Properties, tab Shortcut, button Advanced.
Compatibility issues with older software:
Windows Vista manages some things differently compared to previous Windows editions, which can result in compatibility issues for older software. Some of the compatibility issues are solved by running a program in the Windows XP compatibility mode. This is done with the tab Compatibility of the program shortcut Properties (available by right clicking the shortcut). The compatibility mode pretends the program it is running in an earlier Windows edition. Unfortunately, it is not always a solution to compatibility problems.

TIP: If an older program is still not functioning as it should be, a virtual environment of a previous Windows edition can be a definitive solution to the problem. Here fore, Microsoft's has created the tool Virtual PC (download: www.microsoft.com/windows/virtualpc). This software virtualizes a whole new computer on which a previous Windows version can be installed.
Which applications are compatible?
Although there are compatibility issues, there are many programs which work properly (with or without additional permissions) within Windows Vista. Microsoft investigated many programs and made a list of Windows Vista-compatible software which is devided in two categories: the software is certified for Vista or the software works with Vista. When the software is tested by Microsoft and placed in one of those categories, the vendor is allowed to label the software with the logo Certified for Windows Vista or Works with Windows Vista. The page www.iexbeta.com gives a useful summation of (almost) Windows Vista compatible software. The combination of these sources must be sufficient to tell whether a program will work properly within Windows Vista.

Firefox password recovery

In past we have covered two utilities FirePasswordViewer & PasswordFox to extract & recover stored Firefox passwords. Now here is yet another command line application FirePassword to decrypt singon passwords and username from Firefox.
FirePassword tool can decrypt and display these secrets on the same lines as the Firefox built-in password manager. The main advantage of FirePassword is that it does not require Firefox to be running.
FirePassword
This is very useful in recovering the sign-on details when Firefox fails to function properly. Also FirePassword can be used to display sign-on secrets from different profile (other than current profile) as well as from a different operating system altogether.
Download FirePassword.

One bad or faulty lead connection can cause a computer to continue restarting on a cycle or to shutdown or fail to detect your hard drive

WARNING: Before you start troubleshooting remember that you are dealing with electricity that can KILL.

http://www.kitchentablecomputers.com/static.php - rules

Test all power and data leads that attach to your hard drive IDE,SATA

the leads from your (motherboard to your hard drive) make sure they have secure dust free connections and are not faulty

if its a 40 pin flat ribbon type it will be the first to fail

make sure all leads that are attached to your drives dvd\cd 3 1/2 inch floppy have secure connections and are not faulty

even something as small as a faulty electrical fan and its lead can cause you problems

computers need all power and data to continue through every working device and to have an end so any faulty leads will end up with a computer error

make sure your graphics card is securely seated with no dust built up or in the socket

if you remove your graphics check the socket to make sure its dust free

restart your computer then reinstall it this should activate found new hardware wizard

Try blowing out all of the dust from your keyboard using a fine air blower from an air compressor making VERY sure there is no MOISTURE in the lines or a can of compressed air.

Dust causes static which causes lots of problems with a computer and its parts

you might have to uninstall your keyboard restart your computer then reinstall it

Make sure the batteries are fully charged and have good seating points (if applicable) corrosion

Make sure the ps2 lead connection is secure and dust free (if applicable)

Make sure the usb device is inserted correctly into the usb port (if applicable)

if you can get a screen now

Click start control panel administration tools computer management device manager scroll to keyboards also mouse you might see a yellow exclamation or question mark ! ? or red x you will need to update driver right click to update driver

Ff your computer came with a motherboard disk the drivers could be on it

hope this helps

Firefox

Solution:

i) see it depends how application(fire fox) is using CPU or processor, even though nothing is running in the background, firefox will utilize CPU(like background work with going between firefox and CPU or processor which we may not intercept......)

ii) if u are so curious about why it is i will ask you to see a process in Task Manager called "System Idle Process" which will consume about 99 or 90 %(which is a process is not required or doesnot have anything to applications but still it will 99 or 90% percent of CPU) see it has background work with CPU or processor which is not understandabl e by a common person...

iii) i u still think that this is not the right answer try to uninstall fireforx and renistall and check it,  or try some other browser like opera and check whether it is upto your expectations and continue using it and maintain some peace of mind .........

Thankin you

I have had my computer about 10 months now and it has suddenly won't charge i have tried everthing what shall i do?

Hi SofaSW !

Is this a laptop we are talking about here or a desktop PC ?

If it is a laptop, they you might have a failing battery pack. Batteries will of course fail over time but as yours has occured with only 10 months, I would imagine that you are still covered by a warranty of where you purchased the computer from.

Give them a call and see what they say. Chances are they'll need information like how long does it stay on for. Does it stay on if the main cable is plugged in. Things like that.

If the battery is failing then they should be able to issue you with a replacement, and that replacement should be covered by another warranty, but be sure to ask if they do replace it for you!

Hope this helps!

Soft ware for window 98.ihave windows visa

When an application fails to run, start the Program Compatibility Wizard by clicking on Start \ Control Panel and select 'Use an older program with this version of Windows' listed at the bottom of the side bar.
-Click Next to start the wizard.
-In the next screen, I like to choose the first option instead of hunting around for the program executable. If you do know where the executable resides, select the third option. -Click Next to continue.
-Once the list is displayed, scroll through and find the application you want to run in Compatibility mode. -Click Next to continue.

-Select the version of Windows, the application was originally written to run on. If you do not know, start out with Windows XP (SP2). One advantage of using the wizard is the test mode functionality shown later.
--The next screen list options if your program has problems handling the higher quality video of Vista. For now, click Next to continue. After the wizard completes and the test fails, you will have the option to return to this screen. Experiment with the settings by starting off with disabling visual themes and desktop composition, if you can't get things working.
The below table list definitions for each setting:

  • Run in 256 colors - This forces the entire screen to 256 colors while the application is running
  • Run in 640×480 screen resolution — Runs the program in a smaller-sized window. Try this setting if the graphical user interface appears jagged or is rendered improperly.
  • Disable visual themes - Disables themes on the program. Try this setting if you notice problems with the menus or buttons on the title bar of the program.
  • Disable desktop composition - Turns off transparency and other advanced display features. Choose this setting if window movement appears erratic or you notice other display problems.
  • Disable display scaling on high DPI settings - Turns off automatic resizing of programs if large-scale font size is in use. Try this setting if large-scale fonts are interfering with the appearance of the program.
-Next, if the application requires Administrative privileges, select this option. --Otherwise click Next.
--NOTE--: You will have the option to return to this setting if the program fails to run during the test.
-On the next screen, click Next to test the application. If successful select the first option and click Next to continue.
-If the application failed to run or has problems (such as video), select the second option to go back and make additional changes.
---After a successfull test, select either Yes or No to send information to Microsoft, then click Finish to save your settings.
To reset the compatibility settings back to the original settings, run the wizard again and in the 'Select a compatibility mode for the program', select the last option to 'not apply a compatibilty mode'.
-One big advantage to using the Program Compatibility Wizard, is that you can view which programs or applications are running in compatibility mode by running the wizard and checking the settings column.
-If running an older software application in compatability mode fails, check the software manufacturer site for information or updates to the software.
