It sounds like the battery won't hold a charge. Unfortunately, this doesn't use normal batteries that can be changed easily.

276C not locating any sats

Going to give you a possible solution but i don't think you are going to like it. The problem sounds easy and being as the unit is way off warranty you may or may not want to try this. Sounds like what you have is a broken wire in the antenna or a bad connection, you might MIGHT be able to fix this by opening up the antennae portion of the unit and see what you can see, broken wire or bad connection will have that result. Cleaning of the connector or re soldering of the wire should/might fix the problem. Hope this helps

Low Battery notice kept coming on

TRY RESETTING THE UNIT - Also - charge the unit over night with a WALL CHARGER - this helped when mine pulled that same stunt. Eventually it went away after charging it over night in the wall. Here's how to reset -it just puts everything back to factory settings - 1- Turn unit on WHILE HOLDING your thumb in the lower right corner as shown in picture. 2-Select YES 5770b9e.jpg

My gamin won't charge

FIRST, make sure you have the charger recommended by Garmin. I made the mistake buying a cheap brand and it didn't work. That was a waste!

  1. Use the provided vehicle power cable that came with your GPS unit. The unit will charge while powered on and using the device as well as when the GPS unit is powered off and plugged into a running vehicle. About 3 hrs for a full charge. If the unit will not charge in the vehicle, check the fuse in the power cable for the unit and the power outlet in the vehicle.
  2. Use an AC power adaptor. Some units come with this power cable to plug the GPS unit into a wall outlet allowing the GPS unit to take a charge. For units that do not come with this cable, one can be purchased from Garmin's online store.
  3. For most units, the final way of charging the battery is to plug the GPS into a powered on computer with a USB cable2. This method of charging will be a trickle charge and it may take longer (like a full day) than the other two options, however it will still charge the battery. A USB cable is provided with a few GPS models. For those that don't come with this cable, one can either be ordered from the online store or you can use a standard USB to mini-USB cable that fits the unit and plugs into your computer.

Charging a Garmin Nuvi 260W

Generally most batterys are left on the charger overnight, thats a good way to ensure a full charge, but as you will be using it in your car, it doesn't matter much as power is always available.

To ensure best possible battery life when you have a brand new battery, charge it fully and then drain it almost to 0% Draining most batterys into 0% will be harmfull instead of helpful, I assume the nuvi uses a Li-ion battery so draining it fully is not a good idea, drain it almost fully and then charge it fully.

And you are good to go, repeat the process if you leave the unit unused for a month or two for best battery life.

Thank you,
IwillFixIT!!

eXplorist units have also some hidden and service functions. Like, if unit is off, you can to press:

- IN + PWR - to full selftest of unit (screen test, keypad test, NMEA test)
- OUT + PWR - to serial port test
- ESC + PWR - to burn-in process
- LIGHT + ENTER + RWR - tp uploading of new firmware
- NAV + PWR - to call Service Function window (see below)
- NAV + MENU + PWR - to force power off, equal remove batteries.
- GOTO + OUT + POWER - clear memory and set all settings as default.

IN + PWR helped to power up my unit.

It comes on for a second but won't stay on. One battery bar is lit. HELP!

Hi it sounds like the battery is at an end.
These can be replaced but you will have to take the unit in to get this done as it is difficult to buy spare battery i have never come across any up till now.
If it works whilst the car is running then you know the leads are ok.
it might just be that the battery has come loose from the connector.
What they dont tell you when you buy anything that has a rechargable battery that covers things like mobiles, laptops, gps, ipod, anything like that your supposed to let the battery go totally flat once a month untill their is no power left in it at all then do a complete recharge before you switch it on.
This prolongs the life of the battery and you should have no problems.
I get a lot of mobile customers with same problem i tell them the same.
If the batt is half flat and you charge it up then it just replaces half the charge and eventually you get bad cells in the battery as it is never using all the battery up. So if you can source another batt then just remember to let it go flat once a month then full charge before use then you will get no problems
