Cannot turn on. Power light is not on. Have unplugged and replugged in. Tried a different plug. Have it plugged into a batter backup with other electronics - cable box and DVD player. Cable box and DVD player have power and are on. Not TV.

What do I do about a power supply failure?

  • jbeno Jul 16, 2008

TV is only a couple years old. No sound or anything.

  • jbeno Jul 17, 2008

I still have to get a repair person, but at least I'll have an idea as to what they should be fixing. Thank you.

I am just now experiencing this problem with my Hitachi 42HDT52A. What was the diagnosis for it and how much did it cost to repair? Thanks!

Check for a blown fuse in the power supply area. if you got warranty that should cover the repairs if not a simple blown fuse problem.

Some TVs require being grounded to turn on. Make sure the socket is grounded. If your UPS has a "building wiring fault" LED and it's lit, that could be the ticket. Also see if there is a separate power switch on the back of the TV, near the power plug.

This is most likely a case of bad electrolytic capacitors in the power supply. If you are comfortable with disassembling and soldering in new capacitors, that is probably the fix. Otherwise you will have to take it to a TV repair shop, or send it back to the manufacturer.
First check and see if it is under warranty still.
    product registration for warranty
    Otherwise...

How old is your TV?
Do you have any audio?
If you do not, more likely a power supply failure.

If it's a power supply failure, you should measure the voltages if you know how; from the power supply to the other circuit boards.

Click here and ask them if they have a power supply for your plasma.

APC SmartUPS X (SMX1000)- "AVR Relay Weld" error message

I had this exact problem after a major power out: Fault, call support: AVR Relay weld.
I fixed it by resetting the UPS: Remove battery connect at rear of UPS (it is marked, just unplug the bat connect tab). Plug the UPS back in, and then turn on. Let it power up... it will tell you it needs a battery. Next, power it down and unplug. Plug the batter connect back in (see rear). Plug in the UPS.. power up. Presto.. it is reset. If it is NOT reset, there may be a real 'relay weld'.

Acer 2310 travelmate, power button will not go on. There is no sound of a fan. It is in effect dead. Tried different outlet with no improvement. Unplugged everything and replugged it in.

ok, if there is no indecation that there is any power, I mean even no instant flash when you first try turning it on... sometime the power plug in the back gets loose inside. or the power adapter dies... I would try gently weglling the power plug while looking at the lights if anything happen then it is the plug. if nothing then I would try to test the adapter either by a multimeter or borrowing another adapter and seeing what happend... also try disconnecting the power and take the battery out, wait few seconds then put the battery back, then the adapter (all while looking at the lights) then try again.. still if nothing then it maybe the main board itself... best of luck

System turns on however hard drive will not cycle nor will mouse or key board activate

Turn power off and unplug power from computer.
Unplug printers,backup drives and speakers.
Open case and unplug power supply from the board.
plug power cord back in press the power button.
Of course nothing will happen.
unplug power cord again.
plug power supply back into the board.
plug power cord backup and press power switch.
If nothing happens unplug power cord again.
pull out your memory sticks and plug cord back in and press power button.
Of course not much will happen.
But really something is happening to your computer so continue.
Pull power cord and replace memory sticks.
replace power cord and press power switch.
Continue this pulling out pci cards one at a time until you find out what the problem might be.
Try different keyboards and mice too.
Good Luck
