Question about Dell Dimension 8300 PC Desktop

1 Answer

Dimension 8300 will not start.

I have a Dimension 8300 on day just quit . It beep 2 times and have an errow on the screen “ SATA prim drive 0 not found strike the F1 key to continue, F2 to run the setup”

I called dell tech we went through every thing that he think of by replacing the SATA data cable on the back of the pc the diagnostic lights ABC are green but the D is yellow the tech indicated then I have bad hard drive so I went a bought new one I installed it still having the same problem.

I called Dell tech again this time she indicated that perhaps I have bad motherboard so I went bought a new on I installed it as will. I powered the pc I still having the same issue.

I replace everything as I indicated I am afraid that if I call Dell tech this time they may ask me to buy a new case.

Anyone there may have any idea? I am latterly stumped. I truly appreciate any comments.

I have a Dell 8300 series and it was running fine on Saturaday morning and now I returned on monday night and it seems it has died. It will not respond to anything. I can not turn it on. I have checked all electircal connects and outlet. The monitor, Speakers and everything else still powers on and are plugged into the same power strip. I have no idea what could be wrong and dont know where to start as I dont know why it would have died. I know in the past I have turned it off over the weekend and when I returen it gave a waring of internal battery (or something similar) very low. So I stopped turning it off because I did not know what was wrong.

I am sorry I dont have much info on what happened as i was not present, but any help on this matter will be greatly appreciated.

    Thank you.

Have you tried settings defaults in bios, and making sure the hard drive is plugged into sata0 controller on the motherboard?

SATA Primary hard disk drive failure

Sounds like your hard drive has failed and will need to be replaced. You will need to make sure you have all the recovery cd/dvds Dell sent with the system; or you created when you got the system. The new hard drive will be completely blank, so you will have to install the OS, drivers, and other software from these CD/DVDs.

Hope this helps

What's your problem?a way to turn the SATA ports to ON in the BIOS

You can go into the bios and on those drives that are not found you can turn them OFF or N/A. They are probably set to AUTO or ON.

If that does not work I would say remove the power cord, remove the cover, then remove the main power to the motherboard then plug the main power to the motherboard back it. The main power will run from the power supply and the end of it will be about a 2 inch strip that plugs into the board. Press and hold the little catch on it then pull it out of the socket on the board. Put it back in firmly. Reboot and see what happens.

Primary disk drive not found

Check the connection of your hard drive and make sure it's plugged properly On The Motherboard.

Is this a SATA drive? Has it ever operated properly? If worse comes to worse, you'll have to reload windows from scratch.

Dimension 3100 Won't Boot

Make sure your HD Cables are all firmly plugged in, and that all drives are starting when you turn on the computer. You can tell with harddrives as they will slightly whine, and have a small, steady vibration to them. If they are all starting, and all cables are fully seated, check in your Setup utility that the drives themselves are Auto-Detect. If none of this fixes your issue, you may have to refer your computer to a computer repair shop.

Hope this helps!

Did you check inside and see if all the cables are attached?
Is the hard drive spinning, it may be bad.
Did this just happen?
