Yes so i see. i am now waiting a week for them to call me back so i can ship it. think i might just buy a cordless headset and spend the $300 for it. seems like this is something that RCA should be aware of since it happens within the warrantee timeframe.

The cordless phone headsets use a 2.5mm plug.
The larger 3.5mm plug is used for the PC or
laptop computer headphone connections.
The model number for your cordless phone is
on a small sticker under the battery inside the
handset. Entering this number at www.manualslib.com will allow you to
get a free copy of the original owners' manual.
The issue here in "most caases not all is the battery is at its prime" i would first buy a new battery let it charge for 20 hours!! then try reregistering the headset. if that does not work or reregister then you know now you got a bad transmitter radio inside. Try all reset methods as well even before you spend $12 bucks on a battery pack. Chances are its the battery, worse comes to worse the headset needs to be replaced.

I don't have the answer but have the same problem. Uniden tech support had me disconnect power, etc. to no avail. Next solution was "replace the unit". I'm looking for a two-line phone with no answering device - use voice mail. Any ideas?
This is not a direct solution to your problem, but a workaround for a similar situation. I have two headsets and two charging stations. One of the headsets was stuck with the message ''Welcome! please wait''. When I put the phone on the charging station it usually sits on nothing would happen, but when I put it on the other station the phone came back to life. The non-working charging station will still charge the phone so it is worth keeping.
Could be loose connection where the two wires connect to the circuit board. The mic looks like a small silver canister with two wires leading from it. Resolder if you are handy with electronics. Oherwise replace with a like mic from Radio Shack. Take the old one with you.
It worked well for me too! Thanks Fixya.com!! I was told I had to buy a new phone because the microphone went back. Took the receiver apart (4 screws in back of handset and 2 that held the board in place), cleaned mic with alcohol and a q-tip, and removed the rubber piece that kept the mic clean (inside of the housing), and presto, it worked just fine. The ribbon cable came loose upon opening up inside of phone, but I stuck it back inside the top of base and I was ready to go.
